Comments on 2009 calendar
As this was an Anniversary for two reasons we wanted to produce something which reflected the importance of this. We tried to get photographs of all colour types and find photos not seen before. However, that was very soon abandoned as the photos were not forthcoming. We changed our tack slightly and selected a series of photos of both SE and S2 vehicles from different aspects which we think show the car off really well.
I'd like to thank all of those people who submitted photographs- you were a great help.
I selected a short list of over 50 photographs which were narrowed down to 30 by a committee of slightly boozed - I had to add some incentive- arty farty teachers. We were left with about 5 photographs to delete from this list.
I would like to say that- if your car wasnt represented in the calendar- you either didnt send me the photos or it was just decided to use another pic instead. It doesnt mean there was anything wrong with the one you submitted. Please don't be deterred from future submissions.
However, some things were wrong with a lot of the photographs, so I thought I'd list some of the reasons for de-selection
1 wrong resolution- the printers need high res.
2 focus/depth of field- some pics had background which was in focus but the car wasnt.
3 fod- fag packets, carrier bags, bins, coke cans, peeps all which deflect the eye to them not the car.
4 fixed photos- if you fix/re-size it before sending it the res is greatly reduced
5 choice of background- this can either complement a photo or completely ruin it
6 shadows- its surprising how these can affect your appreciation of a photo, even some of the pro shots we had were ruined by shadows
7 border- if the pic is too full of the car- ie it is too close to the edge even more can get cut off when used by the printers.
What we didnt get....
Missing colours.
Nearly all shots were landscape- very few taken with the camera turned.
Few photos taken from the rear.
Photos not seen before- it would be good to have some that have never been posted on the site.
What we did get....
A good selection of photographs which really show off the car in its 20th year. I particularly like the shots taken at ground level/skyline shots which by their angle take out a lot of unnecessary background and really show the lines of the car.
A particular thank you has to go to Jill Cambell at International Club Lotus for her help with this years calendar. Thanx Jillx.
Finally, if there is support for this to be ongoing I would happily take it on board for future years, and given more time for 2010 would be willing to increase the range of products to please those who didnt want this format.
