No it's for me - I wanted something to replace the Exige while I build my diesel Elise & 340R & this looks lovely so..........plus it will wind so many people on Seloc up being nearly purple again!! lol It was so light it has just gone straight to the bodyshop for painting, I honestly have no idea why they wrote it off!!

Can you still see the entire full registration though ? Numbers and letters?

The offsets certainly are not correct, you're quite right...........the front is et48 and the rear et42.

And I would of not minded at all to report that the handling was terrible, but sorry it's very good with not adverse effects so far, I've just got to give it a wet test and then unless
it will be wearing out the wheel bearings quickly or something? I can't see what all the fuss is about?

The front is 12mm away from the et60 but the rear I've widened on purpose with 6mm spacers and is now et42!!!!

The price is a special one for those with plenty of money looking for a nice sporty red car and good looking wheels, also more likely somebody who knows nothing about the car and probably isn't interested............but just likes the look of it.

I've sold more gear on ebay in the last 6 months at higher prices than cheap as chips from the previous 6 months..............if a product is cheap people most think Mmmmmmm must be crap or a nail then.

I've done it with refurbished wheel sets, purchased them for £50 a set given them a £250 paint and repair job and then sold them for £450 and not £300 !!

The car is not a nail, it's very good and been looked after.........I've looked at autotrader also and with all due respect in comparison some car colours and also interiors look awful IMO.

If I sell it and decide to buy another I would would have to spend the same amount if not more to get one in the same condition in a nice colour and interior not to mention the wheels and Tyres. I'm biased but I think it's one of the best looking car and wheel colour and style combinations I've seen.

No. Probably to the Calypso Elan's tendency for the paint to fade to pink over time, and the picture that shows the front from above sort of has that quality, although in fairness, it could have a lot to do with the lighting.

I personally like the way those wheels look. If I were tracking it, I'd just put the originals back on for the handling. I don't think the different offset would have such a noticable impact on normal street driving. Of course, I'm only guessing, since I've never driven an Elan with non-stock wheels.

ahh I see, sure red can go "pink" quite badly, I know what you mean although you mentioned the lighting and for sure this will have played a part as the lighting in my workshop is quite bright..........I have about 15 fluorescent tubes!!

The current set-up could show up some discrenpencies on the track, and it would be interesting to see how the balance turned out to be.

I've got a really good book which is from USA on handling which explains very well in easy terms how components work like springs, shock absorbers, sway bars, and how the castor, camber, and tyre pressures affect the balance.

I have used this books advice and formula's for over 10 years now with great success, and I once has a Mid engine Toyota 1.6 MR2 where I had coil springs specially made which were a touch lower and also uprated, they worked very well and cured some of the understeer this car had.

I often use roundabouts (We have a few over here in the UK !!) as a skidpan to test a car's steady state balance, and I circulate at a steady even speed slowly increasing the speed until one end of the car starts to loose traction, this simple test shows up the balance and I've used it on many types of car: front, rear wheel drive, light hatchbacks, V6 saloons, V8 4.7 litre coupe, 2.3 5 cylinder estate, 2.5 4 cylinder coupe etc...etc....

The simplist tuning devfice I use once i know which end has reached it's maximum slip angle is to change the tyre pressures, I often have a difference of 4-6 psi between the front and rear tyres which works very well.

The Elan is currently even with 27psi all round on the 215/40/17 tyre size which is approx 2.5-3% taller than the stock sizes (205/50/15 & 205/45/16)

I need to find a good clear day with no traffic so I can do a proper test with the Elan as so far I've not found any slippage!

The leach like chassis clings on very well and the body roll and movement is quite a lot but if the chassis has plenty of movement I feel it won't run out of grip as quick! So I'm unsure which end of the car will break away first?

From all the worry and concerns on this forum regarding the offset being so crucial, I did expect the car to possibly do something adverse? but so far so good.

I have a set of S2 16" alloys which have a few scuffs on them, and I was considering refurbing them in Black with a diamond cut polished outer rim as I think this may look quite nice?

Would you or anyone you know be interested in these in this finish or even just Silver ?

I think the black wheels look very colour co-ordinated with the black roof and also the nice shiny red bodwork........imo

I'm not sure what I would take for them to reserve is more than £100 per wheel, as I'm set to refinish them as new in the auction price.
