Might that be the John Benk commemorative pink tape fix???

Erm, I think all paint needed to be protected from THAT particular "spanner"!
He brought a new meaning to the term "solvent abuse"!

Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...!

The S2 wheel bolt is up & to the left. These are each the factory supplied bolts. A S2 requires a 17mm socket, while the Federal requires a 19mm.
You could use a S2 bolt on a Federal wheel, but using a Federal bolt on a S2 wheel would leave you with that long bolt head protruding proud of the wheel surface; not a good look in my opinion.

Matt - I really appreciate your help here, I'm going to get the correct bolts. SJ's seems to have them in stock:
WHEEL BOLT (BBS Wheels) A100G6030F EACH 2.44. (Holy crap - £40 for the bolts?)Jackonicko wrote:The SE and Fed use a 19-mm HEX, whereas the S2 uses 17-mm.
The bolts are otherwise the same - thread (M12 x 1.5), length (23 or 25 mm i think, but I can't remember off hand!) and conical taper (60°).
The torque should be 80-88Nm / 59-65 lbs/ft
Thanks! Measuring Matt's picture, it looks like 23-24 mm in length.
I assume I don't need a special tire valve...

Thanks - but it looks like I can find them locally for similar money.
Looks like any bolt that meets these specs will work (measuring Matt's S2 lug bolt):
17mm head
12 x 1.5
24 mm thread length
54 mm overall length
Can I assume that if the thread length is a little longer, no big deal (I'm talking like 5 mm more)? I've found some a little longer, some a little shorter. Which is preferable given that finding the exact specs above is unlikely?

As for the center caps, on the S2 I thought the snapped in from the front side not from behind like the FED wheels. I just sold a set of S2 center caps and they did not look like they would go in from the rear
I can confirm this is the case, I have a spare set of new centre caps for the BBS wheels and they snap in from the face side of the wheel.

Dear Randy:
If you are in a bind, it is my recollection that a BMW lug bolt will work. I have a pile of them sitting on the work bench in the garage and, if you want to try them, please let me know and I'll bring a bag full to Tuesday's LOCO meeting.
Sincerely,
Algirdas

They need to be 10.9 tensile strength or what ever it is over there grade 8 I think.
You will need to be a little carefull on length as there is limited room on the front before you hit the hub carrier with the bolts, rear not a problem and you do not want them short either.
I think the measurement is 15mm protruding from the wheel but will check.

The front hub flange is 13.5mm thick so anything over 15mm protruding from the wheel is not doing anything.
If you go to 25mm + protruding you will hit the hub carrier, so Geoff's 19mm is ok and in fact anything that is 15mm to 20mm would be fine.

Randy,
Measuring my S2 bolt gives comparative figures of:
25mm thread length
52mm overall length.
These result in the 19mm protrusion I measured yesterday, which is only 1mm short of Bob's maximum of 20mm, so I would tend towards the 23mm/50mm ones.
Geoff
PS SJ order placed today - waiting for Steve to get back to me.

I've acquired some lug bolts, I'm hoping you all can tell me if they'll work.
Measurements:
Total length - 52mm
head length - 11mm
thread length - 24mm
thread end to beginning of cone - 27mm
The head is imprinted with: CFI 10.9
What do you think?
My phone won't take a good picture (and the wife has the digicam today).
