And even when you've had to buy a brand new Lotus one at some astronomic price, it doesn't mean the old one is going to come off easy!

I eventually resorted to grinding it down and cutting into the threads on one side with a Dremel.

Good work Geoff,
There’s a lot to be said for using Copperslip.
Looking at the amount of contact on the taper it might be a good idea to make the old one into a grinding in tool - using a bit of fine paste you should be able to improve the fit.
As you’ll know... Be sure to clean all the grinding paste off and use a felt tip pen to check the contact on the new one.

Just trying to get the bottom line of all this; are we saying that ALL the crossreferences or Wikilec are currently wrong? - or at best, unadvisable?

All alternative suppliers seem to have been exhausted.
I believe SJ Sportscars can provide a replacement Lotus part at about £66 plus VAT but I have not checked their website lately.
These are vital replacement parts if an MOT pass is required.
All the best plans are flexible, Lotus use Sicaflex.

I’ll have another word with QH and ask again about modifying an existing one to suit the Elan.

Still available from SJ at £66.90 each.
Any news? One of mine has some play in it now so I'll be looking to replace them by the next MOT in June...

Has any body identified the boot?
Anyone know where to get one please?
Any one got a serviceable old one they don't require?
I split one boot on removal...
TIA

If it's any help, I see from my spare parts list that I bought some suitable boots off eBay in June 2006.
£4.50 for a set of four rubber boots for Massey Ferguson / Fordson tractor track rod ends from ebay seller malcolmhipperson.
I believe it was Monty who posted on here about them.

According to
SWP's old site, they appear to be off a Metro.
