That's some damage Graham You poor bugger.

You're very lucky not to be more seriously injured - or worse still. A similar thing happened to Mike Ingles when he rolled his car at much slower speeds than you. He required a skin graft from his arm onto the top of his head. I still see his written off Elan every so often in the scrappies and it always brings me back to earth with a jolt. Monty still has the photo's I think ?

There have been quite a number of rollover accidents with the Elan that I'm aware of and I've not seen any where the A posts have really
offered any protection. Without a roll bar you really are very vulnerable if anything fails on the car, which is more likely given the cars age,
and you clip a kerb etc. It just makes me shudder to think about it. The Elise is one hell of a lot safer in this respect!

A group buy on some roll bars might be a good investment if we want to upgrade safety and be proactive in saving any one of us who finds
ourselves without Graham's good fortune....

I'm now fully healed with just a small scar next to my eye and another even smaller one on the base of my nose to show what happened. I've gone and got a £600 Rover 416 to keep me on the road until the insurance pay-up which I will keep when I get a new Elan.

I'm expecting a call from the insurance on Monday so hopefully should have an update by then as I'm just itching to get back in an Elan.

Edit: Ha, I've just realised I now match my cat who is missing the same eye that I've now got scarred!!

I dont do interior design, or for that matter much to do with the house . I dont think I have bought one stick of furniture (excepting techy stuff of course) in my house as its mostly hand me downs so if you want to donate a replacement .

Had a phone call from the insurance this morning.

Its a CatB and I'm being offered £7050, the official offer will be with me in a couple of days. Looking at the S2's for sale on Autotrader and Pistonheads when plotting price against mileage a 60,000 mile S2 is around £8k at the moment. I'm going to see if I cant get them to up the offer slightly and let me keep the salvage.

Any tips for negotiating with the insurers are gratefully recieved, I'm thinking pointing out the current cars for sale along with the extra costs of modifications (all declared) and new parts on mine compared with the others on the market.

My money would be on a Cat 'B', but you may get away with a Cat 'C' (but i doubt it!)

The problem with Cat 'B' is that the insurers can't let you keep the salvage, as it has to go to an environment agency licenced dismantler

You may be able to negotiate for some of the part back, though (specifically the upgrades), by removing them at the dismantlers yard
