Strange Noise. Goes away when brakes applied

Any ideas? I have a noise, like a medium pitch whistle (sounds a little like the sound you here when you blow in the top of a bottle). It's not real loud, but I can hear it inside, even when the stereo is on at medium volume. The noise goes away temporarily, but immediately, when I touch the brake pedal. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Could be the caliper sticking, it was on mine (when I turned left), a quick once over and a clean up sorted it.

check for a loose brake pad = spring retainer not fitted or not fully fitted, or maybe you got some crud between the rotor and pad

sounds like a remove wheel and inspect brakes job -- what lines and brakes do you have (stock?)?

Check the hoses aren't rubbing. We don't want another Ekapol incident!

i had the same problem withn mine going round left turns....turned out the caliper was sticking on the sliding pins....removed and cleaned and was ok..

The noise is there when going straight. I haven't really noticed if it is there or not when turning, but I'll try to pay attention. I'm having some other things checked out Monday, so I'll have them inspect all the brake bits then too.

I have EBC drilled/slotted rotors, and Mintex pads, and SS lines.

Is there anything I could have done when I had the wheels off (one at a time) recently to refinish them? I don't think I had this noise before that.

Update:

Had the noise again on the way to work today. As usual, driving in a straight line. If I turn the wheel a little, it goes away, just like if I touch the brake pedal. It comes right back as soon as I'm straight -- strike that -- as soon as I'm going straight -- strike that too -- as soon as I have the car headed straight again. I've also definitely narrowed it down to the right front.

check out the wheel bearing jack the car up with hands top and bottom of wheel rock it back and forwards is there any movement there should be none, not like the rears where a little is permissible

I was going to suggest this too, as well as the top and bottom also put your hands to each side of the wheel and rock it (short, sharp rock) from side to side, sometimes there is more play in one plane than the other. If there is play BEFORE it starts to rock the steering (and we are talking about tiny amounts of play here that you will feel rather than see) in either side to side or top to bottom it could indicate a similar noise - each is different but like a soft grinding noise or whir-whir ( ) noise may indicate a wheel bearing begining to go.
