THE COILS HAVE LANDED (well in Loxwood anyways). Haven't unwrapped the parcel yet but the parcel doesn't look as though its been dropped from 30,000 feet. So if anyone wants them posted then you'd better let me have your address. There will be the cost of the postage to pay on this though which i will advise as and when i get them individually packed.

Now to source some decent leads that will do the new coils justice. Any advice on this welcome.

I don't think anyone re-gaps their plugs for the new coils, I wasn't expecting to anyway.

I've fitted the new coils. I'm very impressed.

I did an Elanscan log today before starting the work, and it showed up CAS & EST faults (ie code 41 & 42). The code 41 could be caused by the coils (as an open circuit or leak to earth) so I changed them.

The coils aren't too difficult to change. I found that removing the header tank and the air hose into the plenum gave enough access. To get the coils off the baseplate you'll need a 5.5mm socket to undo the set screws. The new coils slot on no bother. They both had the same reference number moulded into the plastic, but one was the same shape as our originals whereas the red plastic of the other was much more blocky and angular. They both work OK.

I went for a test drive, and immediately thought that the engine was a lot smoother. Unfortunately, just when I thought I had fixed the misfire, I got a slight hiccup again. It looks like I'll have to change the Hall effect sensor as well.

I think it's worth changing the coils anyway. Definitely smoother.

Coils now fitted with new leads to. The engine is running very much smoother and the pick up is much improved. No reoccurence of the dreaded misfire yet so fingers crossed that the problem has been cured. Is there a way of testing the old coils/leads to ascertain if they were breaking down to confirm that the problem was in fact the coils/leads?

Anyway thanks John for your installation instructions which were spot on the bottom mounting plate being the only fiddly bit, oh and one of the leads didn't want to come off the coil post resulting in a small spillage of blood
