Morning all. Hope you are all raring to go on this fine Monday morning.

As we cant actually be out driving them we may as well have a chat about them

After speaking with Neil (Enright) last thing Friday evening we were trying to think of the best way to list the products for the Lotus Elan, taking into account the different models (with cat, without cat) etc and also making the product description nice and easy for anyone to follow.

Our system cant really be classed as a "cat back system", as if the car has a cat as standard, it would be replaced.

I'm not entirely sure I could class it as a "Pre Cat, Back system" because i understand some models do not have a Pre Cat.

So, today's challenge if you all want, is to put your Elan expertise to good use and suggest a way of listing the products best so anyone with a Elan and a computer can follow it simply and get the right product for their car. Then to suggest the best description for each product, maybe with notes about the wastegate etc...

I have listed them simply at the moment and am happy to leave them as they are but thought why not try and get it perfect. Sadly i dont have the in depth knowledge of the different varients to do this myself so am hoping you can all help me out

What's a PCE and do I need one?

What extras do I need to consider when ordering a pipe?

a PCE (Pre-Cat Eliminator), you dont have to get one but if your looking to release more power a pce will remove the last poor flow area in the exhaust.

as far as extras you may need to port the wastegate, other than that i cant think of anything else youd need to worry about, apart from where to get it fitted, if you arnt doing it yourself.

Gary, One option would be to list the parts individually and allow the buyer to order what best suits their application. As an example i would like to purchase the PCE and the flexible downpipe, but thats all i need as i have 2.25 pipe all the way (cat removed) to a KH high performance muffler (exhaust) can i purchase just those two items? (obviously with gaskets if available)

I'm curious as to whether anyone has bought the SE exhaust with the additional silencer ?
How much power would it lose cf the one without? Is it much quieter ? Thanks!

The factory Lotus parts manual refers to it as either, in the case of the SE (no pre-cat), a
Converter Housing,
or in the case of the S2 & Fed(eral), a
Starter Catalytic Converter.

Therefore I would use the phrasing(s)
(front/1st) Converter Housing back, or Starter Catalytic Converter back, respectively.

I havea double-silenced 2¼" Piper.
Apart from that & my BOV, my Elan is currently standard. I can't compare it to single-silenced 'zaust because I have not heard or driven one. It certainly sounds great without being chavvy & I can achieve overboost (more easily now the timing/mixture have been checked & adjusted).
Donington will probably be the best place to compare & I will be very interested to hear the single-silenced 2¼" Pipers. I'll be going on Saturday & will be part of the convoy. If you don't find me in the services (mine is a Pacific Blue SE with the keyholes plated over), then I'm sure somebody on the stand will be able to point me out.

I have the 2.25 Piper without pre anything and Piper PCE
Everest mountain chip (v4.5 I think)
Ported wastegate.

Still haven't done a great amount of mileage since the exhaust and PCE where fitted at the begining of March but can say it sounds great, definate performance improvement
and no overboost yet!

I will hopefully be attending Donny and the convoy so you can have a look and listen.

What are the circumstances when you get 0.94 bar boost in a standard car?

A slight hesitation when you don't expect it. Others have described it as being like applying the brakes very sharply, but with mine it feels more like hitting the rev limiter. There is then a delay of about 1 second before the CEL illuminates & I am restricted to 4000rpm. After about 20 seconds, the CEL goes off & everything is back to normal.

We had a look at AlexGs new Rs Piper. What a great bit of kit. I wasnt exspecting it to look so big. And it sounds great to. I havent seen Maxine get excited over a car part before. Very strange. Max & Andy
