Morning all,
Can't believe another year has gone by since I last posted.
Well first I'm still here and making both the fronts and rear lenses. I recently acquired a brand new front lens for making the master mould, and with a few refinements in the process since I started, the result is better than ever. The one mould has quite a limited run, maybe 6-8 pairs to maintain quality, but I can remake quite easily as required, and there's only one mould needed for both sides.
The moulds for the rears are nearly finished and will probably only manage another couple of pairs. I will not be making them again as I do not have the original amber lenses. Also due to the size of the moulds(2) required, the cost of the mould material alone would now be about £200 and would take a couple of days to prepare, pour, cure, cut, test cast etc.
Regards the clear rears, opinions seem much more divided about these than the fronts. My personal view FWIW is that they can look a bit 'bright' particularly on darker colours. If I had an M100 and was doing this(which of course I would) the I would fit smoked tint lenses. By spraying the inside of the lens, you can adjust the tint level to your own preference. But I would fit clears at the fronts and sides. Provided you carefully remove the ambers, I see no reason why they couldn't be easily converted back. Can't remember if the illustrated fitting guide is in this thread somewhere(I think it is)

I have only supplied one pair in smoked and you can compare on the 2 red cars..
Clear....

and smoked....

Difficult to really tell because of different angle, lighting etc but hopefully you get the idea.
Regards red for the rears, this is something we're starting to see more of on a range of new cars. Same principle as the smoked, instead using something like this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAVAGE-TAIL-LIGHT ... a2febd0e43By light spraying the INNER surface of the lens, it ensures you get a perfectly smooth finish on the outer surface. A chap in Norway did this to my MR2 clear rears and was very happy with the result. Note the black painted border
Pic here shows, but due to the flash, it's a bit difficult to appreciate. I'm expecting more pics in daylight when it comes out of hibernation - not too far from Pacific Blue wouldn't you say?

Well that's enough from me for now, but if it prompts any questions, I'll be pleased to help - or a least give an opinion
Kind Regards
Richard
