Found this one!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1992-LOTUS-ELAN-S ... 240%3A1318

As it is local popped out to have a look. Front end damage with badly repaired bumper. Scrapes to paint work (poor ability to park). Alll in all a bit shabby.

The garrage did not do a very good job of prep for sale.

Cheers

Iain

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

It's been on eBay for a VERY long time without shifting. Initially at £4,999 - now £2K cheaper.

And still there.

It's the cheapest 'trade' car on eBay, and probably the longest-serving, which leads me to conclude that a lot of buyers have kicked the tyres and walked away.

I appreciate this has been hanging around for some time on Ebay but might pop up at the weekend and view. Ive only just started looking and so far have just seen one SE so a trip would at very least be educational. However I was wondering if anybody had actually seen it or knows its history before I embark on a five hour round journey

If you can get it for the right price, it may be the right car.

If driving that far to see it, then LMC in Chiswick also have one (eBay item no.230334449130), there's a steel blue in (item no.200319087407) in Odiham, Hants, and there's a white one in Chesham just West of London (edit: Forget that one, it's a £9k car!). There's a red one (260385861367) in Trowbridge, too. All should be just about affordable.....

And if you hadn't seen enough, 250391992276 is in Brum for the journey home.

Im surrey based - Hampstead not that far in miles but nightmere traffic at weekends.

I looked at the slate blue one and to be honest at this stage, I dont know what to expect for my money.

it looked like a honest car drove really well but a bit tatty both inside out. Loads of history but hadnt been serviced/oil change for two years and the cambelt done four years ago.

Hood fine apart from seals. Advisories on MOT included two tyres and general corrosion on the underside- think on the latter the tester was covering his a**e but I guess the car spent at least part of its life outside so I was wondering about the wishbones.

New pads and skimmed rear discs and the odd brake pipe also replaced for the MOT.Sooner or later more work is needed.

think the car has spent the last three months outside at the dealers so was a bit damp/musty inside. The alternator was overcharging and whilst was this to be fixed prior to sale it wasnt doing the battery or electrical system any favours.

I know its difficult from this limited description but my gut feeling was this was 3k car rather than 5k as a fair amount needed to spending to get it up together. At the right price through probably good proposition.

Is anyone brave enough to venture an opinion or at least ressure me I am following the right thought process.

Nick,

Sorry, mistook you for the other newbie who's looking, who is from Manchester or somewhere.

Five hour round trip? Whereabouts in Surrey are you, and where do you work?

I'm in South Oxfordshire, and you'd be welcome to look over mine to see what a £2.5-3K Elan looks like.

My guess is that the Steel Blue car would be worth in the region of £4K from a private seller (it's tatty but honest and low-ish mileage), and worth somewhere north of that if there's any kind of warranty.

Live and work in Surrey. The five hour trip includes a hour or so tyre kicking. Thanks for the offer to see your car. Like Marcus I am not convinced that buying a £5k SE with hope of not spending anything on it is more viable a than a higher mileage well maintained 3K car with a contingency of say 1K to sort out any problems. It seems to me that many of the expensive/time consuming issues i.e Hood, wishbones paintwork, electrical problems etc are more age related than mileage related. It seems that values drop as soon as you reach a 100k, so if you buy a 80-90k car you will have to ride that depreciation within a couple of years.

Thanks for your thoughts re the slate blue car.

I first noticed that one in December, when the owner was asking £7.5 k.

That was still the price in March.

To sell, I suspect the price will need to drop a tad further. Just my opinion.

Ive actually seen this one (Palacio) B4 I bought my SE. Its not in bad nick. Had a front end spray & drives as it should or so it appears to me. I have some pics if any one wants to see some more than the web offers(if i'm allowed to do that that is) Has uprated brakes & a posh alarm. I didnt buy it because eventually I couldnt get my head around a purple car. It was a close thing though!

What makes you think so?

The fact that it's taken so long to drop the asking price by just £500 leads me to suspect that they might not be amenable to offers, Andy.

Don't forget that just because it's being sold in Surrey doesn't mean it will stay there.

Has it come down from £8000? I didn't realise it had already come down in price. To be honest i think it looks well worth the money at the price its up for. Andy
