Bumpity bump :D

Can't believe another year's nearly passed since I last posted.

Just thought I'd mention that I have a small stock of the clear fronts built up in readiness for Donny. I intend to be there on the Saturday for the 3rd year in a row now. If you'd like to pick up a pair, I've kept the price at £50/pair for cash on the day.

Drop me a P.M and I'll let you have my mobile no. to arrange meet up.

Due to increase in all costs, normal LEC price will now be £55 inc my PayPal costs, amber bulbs and 1st class recorded post.

Cheers,

Richard

HI, I haven't read all of this thread - but just wanted to say I got a set of clear fronts from Wolfie - they're excellent - easy to fit and look great 8) .
Now to save up for the rears......after all the group buys, funds are stretched, and the latest one is self-inflicted!

Reading this section with interest. And whilst I like the clear rear lenses, there's a hint of something that looks a little after-market with the clear rears. On some cars they look great clear (colour dependant). But I was thinking that 99% of manufacturers would not use clear on the rear lights. so I was thinking... What about red? Would red be a more factory orientated look? Porsche, Ferrari etc. All use clear front and side and red rears...

Anybody good enough with photo' shop to demonstrate?

All you need to do is look at the rear of a Fed Elan. They are all red. Not sure I agree entirely with you though as I'm seeing a lot more cars with clear indicator lenses, especially with LED lights, to differentiate from the stop lights.

I'm going with clear lenses all around on my Pacific Blue car. Unless anyone is honest enough to tell me they think I shouldn't?
One question. It's understood I breakt the orange lenses from the rear cluster. Can they be re -glued back to standard at a later date should I wish?

I saw the pic's on this thread. The aqua car looks amazing! The Pacific blue didn't grab me so much. I was looking for reassurance really from other people I guess...

hey its your car....do what you want.....
all that happens is that some like what you do...and some dont.....

some have done interiors...some exteriors....
some of it Id do...some I wouldnt.....

its always important to remember that if and when opinions are given that its their view and not yours......its usually at that point arguments start for no reason other than the 2 different views never seem to agree....:)

Morning all,

Can't believe another year has gone by since I last posted.

Well first I'm still here and making both the fronts and rear lenses. I recently acquired a brand new front lens for making the master mould, and with a few refinements in the process since I started, the result is better than ever. The one mould has quite a limited run, maybe 6-8 pairs to maintain quality, but I can remake quite easily as required, and there's only one mould needed for both sides.

The moulds for the rears are nearly finished and will probably only manage another couple of pairs. I will not be making them again as I do not have the original amber lenses. Also due to the size of the moulds(2) required, the cost of the mould material alone would now be about £200 and would take a couple of days to prepare, pour, cure, cut, test cast etc.

Regards the clear rears, opinions seem much more divided about these than the fronts. My personal view FWIW is that they can look a bit 'bright' particularly on darker colours. If I had an M100 and was doing this(which of course I would) the I would fit smoked tint lenses. By spraying the inside of the lens, you can adjust the tint level to your own preference. But I would fit clears at the fronts and sides. Provided you carefully remove the ambers, I see no reason why they couldn't be easily converted back. Can't remember if the illustrated fitting guide is in this thread somewhere(I think it is)

I have only supplied one pair in smoked and you can compare on the 2 red cars..

Clear....

and smoked....

Difficult to really tell because of different angle, lighting etc but hopefully you get the idea.

Regards red for the rears, this is something we're starting to see more of on a range of new cars. Same principle as the smoked, instead using something like this...

By light spraying the INNER surface of the lens, it ensures you get a perfectly smooth finish on the outer surface. A chap in Norway did this to my MR2 clear rears and was very happy with the result. Note the black painted border
Pic here shows, but due to the flash, it's a bit difficult to appreciate. I'm expecting more pics in daylight when it comes out of hibernation - not too far from Pacific Blue wouldn't you say?

Image

Well that's enough from me for now, but if it prompts any questions, I'll be pleased to help - or a least give an opinion

Kind Regards

Richard

I am well happy with mine (until i finally get round to doing the esprit light conversion  )

Didn't break the amber lenses when taking them off so don't see why you can't remove the clear ones and replace with the amber at a later date.

got mine from Wolfie (protocast) Monday and fitted the fronts in about 2 mins a side :D did the rears today, found it really easy to split the lights and remove the lenses (i used a large flat screwdriver to break the joins carefully) and used Araldite to fix the new ones took all day for the glue to go off !! I also had to replace one of the read rear lenses (with the reflector) that had melted a bit. i think the light had been damaged before as the clear cover had some blue overspray on it and mine is BRG :? Anyway really happy with the clears all the way round will try a take some pics tomorrow

Can anyone suggest a source for a clear (not cyrstal and not tinted) side repeater that would fit onto a UK Elan and replace the square-ish amber OEM units?

Found that Range Rover/Land Rover do a suitable clear side repeater. Does anyone know if they're a straight forward plug and play jobbie?
