I was really smug today....

I repaired our old washing machine...

I grabbed some clothes and carried out functional test... brilliant it all works...

My dullset tones soon rang out from the kitchen, any one seen my cars keys the ones with the key fob on...

Think I should check those pockets next time....

i do feel i should join this club, im trying to think of anyone thing that stands out all my work is questionable.... i guess buying a set off 17" wheels that didnt clear the calipers was a good one, erm dropping a bolt into the hole where the softtop bolts in... dropping a die into the gearbox tunnel.... thank fully that was in the BRG, forgetting about on of the brackets on the dash and smashing it off, removing the steering wheel hub with a sissor jack..... im not sure i cant rate myself, but id not let me near my car.... if i could afford a mechanic.

I've just spent two days stripping and rebuilding two gearboxes in addition to that... fitting a D.H. Short shift and Alan Betts Cables...And so I think I'm done

So time to put the tools away and go for a test drive...

Hang on... what's that broken drill bit doing on the front of clam... A second or two of realization... that's not a broken drill bit... That's a small role pin and that's out of the middle of the 5th gear selector fork... but I guess it's out of the spare gearbox...Bet it's not...

Eer, setting fire to my works van?

It was (some years ago) a Bedford Rascall mini van (same as a Suzuki Super Carry), the engine is under the front seats and canted at an angle. Me and work mate pull into a petrol station, fill up with fuel, and I thought good idea to check the oil. It was low, so bought a 1 litre bottle and wondered how to pour it in without a funnel as the filler hole is also at about 30 degrees. Gave up trying to gently pour it in and slammed the bottle upside down onto the filler hole, throwing 1/4 of the contents over the roasting hot exhaust manifold, only expecting it to smoke a bit. Whomph! Eek, it's on fire! Mate comes out of the shop to see the van with both doors open, seats up and loads of smoke pouring from both doors! He runs off! I'm trying to blow the flames out, blow, blow, BLOW, help, not working. Run into parts department and ask for a fire extinguisher, their reply "Sorry mate, we don't sell them!" I point at van, they run into back of the shop. I then spot a powder extinguisher next to the fuel pump, next to the van, set it off inside the van, direct at engine. Phew, flames gone out. Assess damage. Engine looks like a snow scene, charred wires and pipes just visible. Turn key, engine starts! Flop seats back down, close doors, drive off, looking in the rear view mirror at the mess I've left on the forecourt of the fuel station, spilt oil, dry extinguisher power everywhere, spent extinguisher on it's side.

Mate gets back in the van and says "I thought you knew about engines and stuff, so how come you nearly blew up north London?" We never did tell the boss.

A few years back I was messing about with one of those old wind- up alarm clocks .... It wasn't working so out of boredom I decided to have a tinker....
I released the 3 brass retaining screws on the back plate and carefully removed it to have a peek inside .... Most of the innards including a highly tensioned metal strip coil suddenly exploded outwards and smacked me in the face... For the next 2 weeks I walked around with a big scab on the end of my nose...
Friends noticed the scab and asked what happened .... I told them I fell over and quickly changed the subject

As a kid i was interested in everything pyrotechnic ...One day i decided to see what's inside an igniterpellet of a mini emergency flare.
I started to pry the contents out with a needle, and PENG! ended up with a black face and black safetygoggles

Thank god that even in my youngster days it was always "safety first" !

So I'd reassambled the turbo and manifold and was trying to manouevre the whole shooting match into postion but try as I might I couldn't get the assembly back far enough. After quite a few minutes grunting and straining I rested the assembly on a rag on the slam panel and analysed what was going on. Ah, what's that big rod jutting up vertically tangled up in the turbo - Ah ha the bonnet stay - now with a significant bend in it. What a pillock!

I normally use aircraft locking wire, it does jam about 8" in, but working a round guides it past the kink.

Some use compressed air.

Put a bend in the wire about a quarter of an inch from the end and squirt WD40 down the hole before you start.

I've unblocked mine twice since owning it. Both times I used compressed air. It works quite well.

I tried strimmer cord (from above & below) & compressed air. Neither did the trick.
I eventually removed the drain tube when I secured my roll hoops. I was then able to remove the components. The blockage was in the right-angled bend which the tube attaches to.

This did not take as long as it sounds.

With all the components apart, this small rubber tube will straighten. I eased a piece of wire through it & this cleared some thick black gunge out.
Now it is clear, a quick blast of compressed air every few months should be enough to keep it that way.

Compressed air from the top didn't work for me, so I tried it from the bottom of the tube... it cleared the gunk out, but then I had to have a shower to get it all out of my hair! yuck

filled with water and let sit for a couple of days, then blasted it with compressed air at about 90PSI from a trigger-type nozzle. Just make sure you're someplace where the splat out the bottom won't mess up the floor!
