Gary, they haven't been painted and it's Paul in Rutland's car not Paul in Manc's. :-D

Nice job Paul. Did the £170 include all the prep work or did you do that yourself?

Geoff, they did everything, all i did was send the bits to them.

Paul.P wrote:Matt, these are like a dull chrome ( greyish ) effect, are you saying if polished with something like Autoglym, they will come to a bright shine?

Hi Paul. I got mine back once with what looked like remnants of white polishing coumpond left in all the low spots. I used metal polish along with OOOO steel wool pads to remove it. The polish provides a lubricant for the fine steel wool pads so they don't scratch the finish. This is the same way I remove HEAVY oxidation or light rust.

To keep the parts nice I use the same method as on chrome wheels. After an oil change I wash the engine, etc, using Gunk Engine Brite. On bare metal & ceramic-chromed parts only I use S100 Polishing Soap and allow it to dry-on like you would a wax. Wipe it off with a dry cloth and it leaves a shine you'll be proud of.

NOTE: They say you can just wash the Polishing Soap off or let it dry on, then buff it off. The latter method gives a superior result.

Very nice Paul.

Where did you get your door cards and door-carpet-replacement-panels done, and how are the latter fixed?

They were all done at lotus & are fixed with double sided tape.

Matt, i had a Tiger 650cc with the 750 Morgo barrels & E3134 cams, but my best bike was a 750 T160V Trident, rebuilt properly by Norman Hyde, i'll try & sort some pics.

Paul, what kind of paint was used on chassis pieces like this, such that it will stand up to time & abuse. With cost no object, I'd prefer powder coating, as I've done for engine bay parts not yet installed on my yellow car (some $600 worth)! BTW, this whole project you've done is really something to aspire to.

Matt, this was done with Hammerite, 2 coats of there special coat primer ( as the wishbones were galvanised ), then two top coats. Please note i don't recomend this to anyone, as the Hamerite seems to come off very readily ( Monty had this problem too ). What i am doing now is having my spare car's suspension blasted, etch-primed & two-pack painted, then i will swap over ( this is long-term ), i have had some poor experiences with powder coating as it seems to come away from its member part, without showing it, but can corrode underneath. Speaking to people who renovate vehicles, they all recomended etch-priming before any top coat.

Paul, this looks promising and is DIY, although not avail in gold. The gray looks similar to the original Lotus prongeron color. Play the video here http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?item ... 446&KICKER

And yet another JPS: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lotus-Eu ... dZViewItem

I nearly bought one of these for Maxine when we where choosing a car for her.It was very hard to spend the same type of money on an S2. I think we made the right decision. I still get second thoughts when ever i see a JPS. But if we had of gone the JPS route it would of been buying a car for me. And that wasn't the brief, Andy

He's sold it? Where going to have to get G a helmet now. Do we know how much or is that being rude. It is nice. We both love the MK1 Elise in black.

Paul

It goes without saying that Gary speaks for himself and his views are in no way representative of the masses.
This news saddens me more than you may imagine. I sincerely hope that our recent disagreement had no bearing upon your decision.

Hi Paul

I was shocked when I heard you were selling your car, at least its gone to a good home and LEC member.
Maybe your next project could be an Essex Elan?

I am sure in time you will be back with an Elan to shock us.
