I think that ring is the gas seal between your new flexi part and the triangular flang at the bottom of the PC/Eliminator/ LGM downpipe. There is a groove ( usually needs the crud cleaning out) and the studs go into it.

The local quick fit boys knew where it fitted and I must say my 2.5" two silencer system fitted very well and sounds great.

Thanks Richard, though I have a 2.25", 2 box system, so that explains why it doesn't apparently fit.
Also I have an SE not S2, so there is no PCE... maybe it just got put in the bag by mistake?

Would the stainless exhaust sytems that mimic the original be a good alternative to a Piper system. Eg. The SJ systems.
I only want more noise! A better sound! Not bothered with power, but I guess the SJ sound standard? Any views/experience?

IIRC SJs exhaust has had some reliability issues with the baffles in the back box, and cracking due to no flexi section.

Happy to be corrected on either point if others believe differently.

The 2¼" 2-box system was fitted without issue to my SE. I took a look at it while working under the car the other day & it fits quite well.
Both SE & S2 have the pre-cat housing. On the SE it is empty though.
The PCE replaces the pre-cat housing but is a better shape, making it less restrictive to exhaust flow.

Rip how easy was it to remove the pre cat? Ive just been down to Kwickfit to get our Exhaust checked out. The back box is blowing and i think that the gubbins inside has collapsed. So that seems to of been the cause of the boost problems we where having. Something must of shifted because its hitting 0.9 now. I asked the guy at Kwickfit about fitting the Piper and PCE. He didn't want to know. He said he would have to drop the is it front sub frame to get the exhaust in. And getting to the pre cat to remove it anyway he didn't want to know. Max & Andy

Reading back a few posts Nitroman said he has not herd of anyone getting boost creep with a cat. I'm not sure if this includes a sports cat. Has anyone had problems with boost creep with a sports cat fitted? Would this not be a cheaper alternative then a wastegate porting. How much power would be sacrificed fitting a sports cat? Well we took the plunge we have ordered the RS Piper with no cats and the PCE. I was getting stressed out trying to make my mind up whether to get a sports cat. Now i can chill and get stressed later. I have read that there is a re usable gasket is it the one above the PCE. Will it still be OK after 15yrs? Andy

Yes. It's about 1mm thick steel. Definitely re-usable.

Sorry, I've not done it to mine yet. I believe it is very difficult & maybe impossible without removing the turbo.
Now you've blasted your pre-cat into many small pieces , you may want to leave the housing alone for now & fit the exhaust on its own. If you then find you get overboost, then you can add the pre-cat when you port the wastegate.

I paid the local garage to fit my exhaust too. Power tools & a decent lift make this much easier.

That could be a very good idea Rip. Get the fitter to poke his finger up into the pre cat and try and winkle out whats left. Tried the Everest the wind stopper with the roof down for the first time. Makes your bum pucker Max say' s i shouldn't of told you that. Andy

Just had delivery of Mr Piper's 2.25 inch system with one silencer and no cat for my 91' SE. Product number TLOT8BSJ

Delivered next day after order by DHL and I am impressed with the good packing, shrunk bubble wrap and the tough plastic protected it well, on opening I was well impressed with the quality and finish of the components.

After it's fitted tomorrow do I need to make any tuning adjustments to the engine?

It was fitted this morning at a local exhaust place, took them nearly 2 hours as they said the old system was difficult to remove. It had been there 15 years and they couldn't use a torch to warm the nuts up.

On the road she sounds louder as expected but response on the throttle is quicker, will report back when I've done a few miles.

One annoying aspect of the fitting was that they scraped the tail pipe probably against concrete floor while fitting. As the fit cost was 48 pounds I don't think it's worth pursuing but annoying all the same.

That IS annoying. Is it visible? Can it be polished out?

What sort of delivery time have people been experiencing from PIPER?
I ordered last Wednesday and was assured my order would be with me by the 8th May. Is this realistic? I've booked the car in with Paul Matty for a fitting on the 9th...

We ordered 21st and I'm looking out the Window now. A Fed ex van pulled up 10 Min's ago and the driver pulled out a big box. I ran out in my under cracks and he must of put the box back, and drove off. Its a bit spooky you mentioning delivery times just as this was happening. I thought a few days would be plenty of time. Andy
