Sun visor

My driver's side (LHD version) sun visor is suffering from the droops. It will not remain up in either the forward or backwards 'up' position, but slowly moves down so as to obstruct my vision. I have now taken it off and can see clearly again. It looks like this has been a problem before, as there is quite some back plasticky gunge around the pivots.

I do not miss it (does anyone ever use these things?), but obviously would like to repair / replace it anyway. However, I can find no mention in any of the manuals / parts list I have seen so far, or anywhere on this forum. Any ideas? Is this one of the parts taken from some other standard production model? Can I fit some kind of tube inside to restore correct operation? Is there anywhere I can buy a new one?

Is the part the same for the RHD version, just fitted the other way around?

I found the solution written up somewhere on this forum, but can't remember where.

The problem is that over time, the material on the inside of the holes just gets worn and loosens its grip.

The solution (which I used on mine) is this: Take the visor off and wrap some black vinyl electrical tape around the pegs, then insert them back into their respective holes. The fit should be quite snug. I did this to my driver's side visor more than a year ago, and it hasn't drooped since. It's a common problem, and an easy fix.

You could also try putting a screw right throught the middle of the visor into the header rail. That'll stop the drooping.

Or do what I did and take them off - it gives better visibility as well.

Yep, mine are in a box of bits somewhere in the conservatory - they aint no good with the roof down, and a pair of shades keep the flies out of your eyes.

Until you try driving anytime the sun is in an inconvenient spot in your eyeline! I'd love to have bigger visors that pivot and extend... I'm spoiled by my other cars' visors I suppose.

Mine came off long ago. The passenger side visor wouldn't stay up and if I angled mine down even slightly, I couldn't see a thing ahead! Completely pointless. It's not like I'm particularly tall. I'm fitting lower seats soon so may need visors again. I'm going to look for some properly made ones off a recent Japanese / German car.

The person used some clear heat shrink tubing. This is a perfect solution! And would look nothing but factory...
Just put the tubing over the metal rods for want of a better work. Heat and shrink. Replace.

I've tried to remove my sun visors, but at least one of the screws simply twirls in place instead of backing out when turned. Anyone else seen this? How'd you remove? I'd like to try the vinyl tape trick.
