Moffat Car Rally, 27/28 June, 2009

Postby M100_DMM » Mon 04.05.2009, 22:51

The Moffat Car Rally is held in the attractive town of Moffat in southern Scotland every June. It's a two day event - there's an organised run (through some very attractive scenery) on the Saturday and the main show on the Sunday.

Details can be found here: http://www.sre-scot.co.uk/Moffat-Classic-Car-Rally-Scotland.html

Entries are limited to the first 900 cars (300 for the Saturday run) and must, in any event, be submitted to the organisers by 13th June.

Any takers for a Clan Elan sortie to it?

Dave - I've been 2 or 3 times on the Sunday and its a great wee show. Ive always gone with Joe Public and parked ouside the main arena in a rutted, grassy (sometimes ver muddy) field. There are usually plenty of curious people asking me about the M100 though so I was thinking of exhibiting my car inside this year.

There are lots of trade stands and although mainly geared towards vintage and classics there is some modern stuff. In fact there's something for all the family. And when the ladies get fed up of walking around (about 20 mins max !!) there are plenty of shops in the town for them to have a wander around. Sexist I know, but at least it gives you a couple of hours tyre kicking freedom

Mark, I've been a couple of times in the past, most recently in about 2001. The show seems to have grown a bit in size since then. I might do both days this year - I really enjoyed the run the time I did it.

This year's Moffat show looks all the more attractive to me now that Callendar has gone from the, ahem, calendar and in view of the uncertainty about this year's Culzean Autoclassica.

Shame about Callander. I went for years and we even had a very enjoyable LEC meet there with Man. Utd. (Monty and Dico), Stef, Alan, Stevo, Erch, JimP, me...to name but a few. They had to replace the carpet in the pub after Dico razzed up his chicken vidaloo :smt078 and he's still bammed years later LOL

Never bothered with Culzean although those that have gone said it was quite good
