I'm trying to ride shotgun with Ron to Duns cause I'll have to leave the esprit and elan up here.
The cars are fine but I'm just trying to keep the family happy by driving down to Edinburgh all together in the pick-up. We'd have to take 2 cars otherwise and Justine's not keen on driving on busy roads

At the moment I'm just thinking about doing Saturday morning (S Queensferry->St Andrews->Boness). Was considering Sunday morning but Sarah is running the Edinburgh 10k so I'd need to be back for 11am to cheer her across the line

Well - wasn't that a good bash yesterday ?? I'd post some photo's only my camera slipped out of my hands at Jim Clark's graveside whilst I was trying to take a photo of Alan Morgan (CL Chairman) and Andrew Laing laying the floral tribute. It bounced of a seat and Booby Dickerse before falling to the ground and making a terminal buzzing noise. Very poignant !!

You all missed a cracking visit to the Harelaw motor racing and aircraft galleries. Lots of JC memorabilia and 2nd world war prints/originals/photographs of airplanes etc... signed by Wing Commanders, Majors etc... The old boy that started the collection, now a ripe old 90 years of age, was sharp as a tack. So was his wife, a couple of years his junior.The exhibition was well worth making an hour's detour for.

Had a blast on the way home. Hit over the ton briefly on the magnificent B road to Westruther and Lauder Naughty Rambo Hope you all had good drives home

It was good to see you all and meet some new people also. Finally got to meet DMM, and chatted to many others including Alan Morgan of Club Lotus. Ron & Gloria's hospitality was excellent, and I must say their house is in a fantastic spot with great views in every direction over the Firth of Forth and the Pentlands.

The weather was sunny & warm for both Saturday's drive through Fife and for Sunday when after a run on some nice borders roads it was great just to sit outside the Jim Clark room waiting for it to open. We met the main group (including Alan ab2cv) in St Andrews for the drive to Bo'ness motor museum, then spent Sunday with Ron RJR, BigErch, Rambo, and DMM among others.

There were some good roads in Fife and the border, but the main road drive from Aberdeen and back was just a bit too long and not at all fun. That's why we ducked out of the Sunday morning run and went round the Jim Clark room instead. It's a shame we had to leave just after lunch and missed the Chirnside wreath laying and the Harelaw museums, both of which I had been looking forward to, but I needed to get back earlier than intended.

Anyway, here's some pictures.

PS: On the Saturday run, most of the 15 or so cars were Elises and Esprits, with just 3 Elans and one 1960's Elan (although 3 more 1960's versions turned up at the car park in Bo'ness). With 6 Elans present on Sunday we must have made up about 25% of the Lotuses in Duns.

Anj and I really enjoyed Sunday at Duns. Fine company, nice weather, lots of Loti about: it was all good.

Even that worked out ok. The brakes were fine on the way home. The front n/s brake must have seized then released again - they seem to respond well to totally unfeasible threats.

Sunday was a good day. Thanks to Ron for letting me borrow his yellow Elan - it made my day.

That photo must have been taken on the Saturday in Kilmany while I was finding my way through Dundee. I caught up with this lot in St Andrews about half an hour after the photo.

The bloke standing next to the statue is one of Jim Clarke's old mechanics. I was talking to him on Sunday in Duns. He's still with Historic Team Lotus. The guy on the right is a Welshman who owns the Lotus Cortina. He drove all the way up from Wales for the event.

Ron's gone and forked out for two sets of hispeks I shouldn't have said anything about his standard ones on the yellow s2. I'm sure he'll feel the difference but it's a hell of a cash when you're buying for two.

Many thx to all yes it was a great day/days is this hand brake locking thingy that special i wonder, car went well but boiled over while wife talking at tescos- trying thermostat, new one got with gasket please no suggestions untill i look foolish and its the coolant warp thermistor drive as everyone said. just to say we do not do many club things after we took elan and s1 elise to dunston hall lotus 60 thing and were reasonably well blanked by all but hey maybe its me, anyone else going to Isle of man thing in july.

I don't think it's the coolant warp thermistor. Maybe the thermonuclear tachyon emitter? Or did your cooling fan not come on?

I have to say anything with a Lotus badge interests me. If they started making lawnmowers out of Hethel they'd be the best in the world

Your locking handbrake is pretty rare. I'd say it's even less common than air-con on UK Elans.

Sorry to hear about your overheating woes. Hopefully, a new thermostat is all that's required.

Car clubs are only as good as their members. Fortunately, this one has more than it's fair share of good guys.

Looks as though it was a very good event. I've been to Duns just the once as the Jim Clark Rooms were on my must visit list and as I was on a work trip to Leuchars........

I would very much like to do this weekend myself one year, maybe when small people are not such a factor.

m400kay, Please don't be put off events by the experience at Dunston. Certainly from an LEC perspective the problem with a web based group is no body actually knows each other. When real world, rather than virtual world, events happen there is a need to get in peoples faces and introduce yourself with your forum name (and what you want to be called to your face) so the light bulb comes on with whoever you are talking to. In my experience LEC are amongst the friendliest group around, and once people recognise you they will approach you and say hello, the other thing at big events around the stand etc is that it is usually fairly manic and that quiet moment just to say Hi can be quite difficult to find.

yes point taken and valued now has anyone got a cooling fan they dont need or two as power to all points on harness to fan connectors but nowt turning at front god never had these problems with elise ponders !!!!!!!!!!! still not selling it now on to parts wanted section.

There has been a group buy of replacement fans recently, arranged by Gordon, See the thread Here. I don't know if there will be another batch but it might be worth contacting someone who has just fitted new ones to sse if they still have the old fans.
