Kuching Roll Hoops, Deck and Fairings

Postby paulwatkins » Fri 01.05.2009, 20:18

Seeing the photographs of Graham's (GUK) recent accident (SEE HERE) was a chilling reminder about how little protection the windscreen affords should the car turn over. Thankfully, Graham survived to drive another day but the images of the blood splattered on the seats had a lasting effect.

It started me off discussing with Simon Carrier, the possibility of producing a set of roll hoops. Simon is a long serving member of the LEC community and is extremely well respected. Simon is also the skilful chap that produced the well designed hard top. If anyone wants to check out Simon's crredentials just take a look at his website HERE.

Simon, has kindly agreed to do a another run of the roll hoops (and accessories) but needs a minimum of 10 takers to make it cost effective.

There are the structural roll hoops, rear deck and fairings. Simon can fit them if you want, or they an be fitted yourself (Monty fitted his own, Nige had his fitted by Simon).

The hoops can be fitted on their own or with the rear deck. The fairings can be fitted if you have the roll hoops and rear deck together.

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. Some of you may of seen the items fitted on Nige's and Monty's cars.

Here are some pictures of the fitted articles. I think you'll agree that they are very impressive!

Stunning work, yes I'm very interested.

Couple of questions -

WIth everything fitted is the soft top still 100% operational i.e. does it still fit under the rear deck and does it clear the fairings?
With everything fitted ( hoops, fairings) is it still possible to fit the SPC hardtop?

Also gotta to have a big think about how I would ship this kit to RSA.....

Cheers

Richard, the answer to both of your questions is yes :D .

The soft top to fairing clearance is minimal (but it does clear if the soft top is fitted and adjusted properly).

My car has the hardtop on at the moment and it all fits over the hoops and fairings perfectly.

As far as shipping to RSA, I can't help you there. However, if you have a hard top already in RSA then these items are not as bulky to ship as a hardtop.

Just a couple of questions:-

- Where would fitting take place?
- Would the fairing look odd without the Rear Deck?

Roll hoops - £595
Rear Deck (unpainted) - £325
Fairings - £240

Fitting - £150

Mark, if you look at the photos of my car you'll see that the rear face of the fairing is designed to blend into the humps in rear deck. My personal view is that the fairings would look odd without the rear deck with the humps. I'll bring the S2 to the next H&C on Wed if you want to have a good look?

I imagine fitting would be by Simon at his works, which I assume is still at Sawtry (just off the A1 north of Peterborough).

I`ll just add my 2 cents worth.

Simons Rool Hoops is a fantastic and well made product and i`m happy that there up to the job if the Pink Bomb ever decides to do a flip  IIRC there are 11/12 fixing points.
I would recommend that you have Simon fit these as it`s no small job

A big :smt023 to SImon for doing another production run

I'm not intending to make a career out of stopping Elans with my face and I most certainly do not want to experience being trapped dangling upside down off of my seatbelt watching the floor and remains of the roof slowly turn red again. Still better safe than sorry!!

As you can probably tell I 100% recommend this product.

What is the time line on this - I am tempted but am wrestling with the finances - plus do you happen to know if the Classic Additions Wind Blocker compatible? - looking at it, it might just need a modified bracket made up.

With the condition that someone has to make a video of the fitting so mechanically hopeless here can stand a chance of fitting it all properly.....on the other side of the world.

There is a facility in the Loop fairing to have a perspex wind deflector made and fitted.

There are 4 tapped screw holes

Cheers
