Wing Mirror Just Fell Off

Postby Gareth » Sat 23.05.2009, 10:15

While I was enjoying an early morning drive the drivers side wing mirror glass fell out of the holder.

Luckily the electrical connectors stopped it falling on to the road!

After disconnecting it and looking at the rear it would appear that some of the "plastic bits" essential to hold this in and make the
electrical adjustment work have broken.

The rest of the mechanical/electrical system appears OK : I can see bits moving when I use the adjuster button.

Can anyone tell me whether this is a readily available part, if so, what is the part number and where can I get it?

Thanks in anticipation :(

Are you definetly sure they are broken, I think I had a similar problem once, however looking carefully, the bits were not broken, the mirror had just popped out. It was relatively fiddly to put back in but went in eventually (think I had to press harder than I wanted to to make sure it popped back in). If the plastic catches have actually broken I imagine a 2nd hand unit might be a good bet.

Unfortunately the plastic "bits" have broken.

I've made a temporary repair using superglue, but I'm not confident it will last very long.

Still appreciate any info on where to get a new/secondhand wing mirror glass

I've never heard of the cross like part breaking, the clip in points on the back mirror do break and are fairly inexpensive. The little black plastic ball joint things are very cheap. Good luck.

My side mirror is wiggly? It doesn't operate, so something is loose. Dumb question, how do you remove the glass to check it out? A coat hanger and pull?
Thanks,
Damm this car looks good

Is it the glass that's moving or the housing?
If it's just the glass I would think the plastic spigot is either broken or has detached itself. Try pressing the glass back in squarely and very very carefully ..

I'm having the same issue on my passenger sideview mirror. The glass is wiggly and I tried to press it in, but to no avail.
Peter, were you able to repair your mirror?
