They maintained that a three stop strategy was showing as the fastest throughout the race, and Barrachello intimated his (3rd?) set of tyres let him down - he definitely dropped off the pace. Had that not been the case, he might have done it. Hats off to Button anyway, nothing but admiration for Brawn GP here, though I'm no Hamilton-hater either.
If a three stopper was the way to go, why did they take take Button off his three stop strategy (he had a lap less fuel than his team-mate over in his the first stint) and convert it to a two stopper? Moreover, why didn't they tell Barichello what they had done with Button's car sooner than they did?
Also, if a three stop strategy was really the way to go, why didn't any of the other front-running teams go for it?
Brawn will want to keep one of their drivers at the head of the championship race for as long as possible. Button's the man at the head of the field, so if Brawn were to favour any driver then, logically, it would be him.
I'm not trying to detract from some great drives from Button. After a period in the wilderness, he's been given the chance to shine and, boy, has he seized it with both hands.
