Postby Tannerman » Tue 09.06.2009, 15:45

Hi guys feeling quite miffed at the moment, got a new gear leaver from JCT 600 in Leeds and started to fit it this afternoon, It has been a pig to fit to say the least and now it is all back together i can't get 5th or reverse, Something is stopping the lever with the pin on from moving and i can't see what!!! I have tackled this job from the top as i can't see any other means of access to it...Please help i really cannot see what i have done wrong..

cheers in advance

EK, I believe you're having your gear knob replaced... so an apology to John for the doughnut slur wouldn't go amiss.
John, are you sure you haven't crossed any cables when you had the lever assembly out?

Hi Sy no i have sorted it now....Moral of story"step back have a cuppa and think"....The Lotus engineer who carefully made my new gear lever with the pride of a new dad decided his tea break was more important than a decent welding job!!!
he left a small nipple of weld on the selector lever which when bolted into place fouled on the plate the the cables go through...(if that makes sense) Stopping it moving over.

No offence taken at the doughnut jibe, i would have been far worse than that if i had messed up the gearbox just changing the "knob"

I know everyone is going on about the short shift kit but for less than £20 this had made a big difference to the tightness of the shift and is alot more precise.

I think this is a must do if your shift is sloppy like mine...I have fat fingers so it wasn't the easiest of jobs for me but woth wile just the same...

Thanks guys
