Snetterton Photos, Hellos & Thank Yous

The next big Lotus event this year will be the Lotus On Track (LOT) Lotus Festival to be held at Snetterton Race Circuit over the weekend of 13/14 Jun 2009. Planning is in an early stage but as it is 20 years since the M100 Elan was launched an LEC presence is planned. There will be an attempt for a World Record for Lotus cars and a possibility of a factory visit

I'm still grinning like a cheshire cat! Hope everyone had safe, trouble-free journeys home. It was an excellent weekend with a brilliant atmosphere at the SELOC Camping, BBQ & Band - the music was great with lots of dancing and singing going on whilst myself, Graham, Ian, Nick and Kim chatted the night away and drank a little too much. :drunk:

An early rise in Sunday revealed it was going to be another scorcher of a day and after a well-needed breakfast (food at the track was excellent all weekend and reasonably-priced), other Elans started arriving. We had 30 M100's in our allocated parking area and it was great to add more faces to names from LEC. Our parking spot was as close to the Paddock as possible, so there were lots of people coming up, looking at the cars and chatting about them.

The World Record Attempt was a sucess, but I don't know the total number of cars on the track. You've got to feel sorry for the Elise Owner whose car let off a massive billow of steam and then dumped it's entire coolant on the floor in about 3 seconds flat!

Sorry for those who weren't able to stay for the parade in the afternoon, we teamed up up with other Lotus' from the East Anglia Lotus Club I think? It's was good fun driving round the track at a higher speed than the 10 mph from earlier in the day (especially if, like me and Dave Eds, you hung back from the pack behind the safety car) :burnout:

Huge thank you to Paul Golding for organising everything and for accomodating us with an excellent parking area, a mention in the programme and the parade. Also, thanks to Burt and everyone at SELOC for organising the camping, BBQ & Party and making us feel very welcome. (I shall be sending on LEC's thanks today, plus also to Lotus Cars for putting on the parts sale on the saturday)

Looking forward to the next event, definitely camping from now on and I hope everyone had a great weekend

Actually Dave, I missed you! Thanks to you for phoning me so I didn't miss the second parade! :D
I guess they brought the time forward or the sun had completely gone to my head at that point as I thought it was 4.40pm  Kyle ate his chips as we were driving round!

Shaun, I'm just back from Le Mans and am delighted that you had such a good weekend along with all the other LEC'ers who were there.

Thank you for the effort and enthusiasm you put into making this a success and thanks to those who helped you and those who attended. I'm pleased you were all rewarded with good weather and a good turnout. I think 30 Elans is excellent for an event that is not established in the same way as Donington, shame it clashed witrh Le Mans as there were 2 or 3 Elans there which otherwise might have been at Snetterton  .

Record (subject to GBoR ratification) I think is now 436 against 312 or so at Brands previously.

Shaun, thanks for sorting this out for LEc members and the free tickets.

Great drive up to Snetterton sunday morning with at least 10 other elans. Took the wife to her first Lotus event in my 12 years of ownership because i thought she actually might enjoy this one, did she, a simple yes is the answer.

Watched most of the races including one from the pit wall thanks to Sinclaires who were racing. We were so close to the cars you could almost touch them.

World Record attempt went well once they made it 3 wide instead of the 2 we started with. Apparently like at Brands 3 years earlier, the front was catching up with the back making people come to a stand still. For the record we had to all be moving. The number of cars was 436 beating the old record by 123

Weather was brilliant but a bit burnt at the moment to say the least, people at work keep asking if i've been away. They only saw me at work saturday

As for the so could parade lap, i cant believe how disorganised it was. Their's me expecting to be waving at the crowds doing 10mph down the home straight with the wife and we end up doing 4-5 laps flat out on the straights (not the bends as i had no race track insurance). I was hanging right at the back a didnt even see a safety car, could only see the last 2 cars out of the 6 so could go any speed i wanted, WHICH I DID. Most people would have payed good money for that      Something i didnt expect or the wife while she tried hanging on to Bob's laptop doing elanscan.

And still the retaining World Record Holder.................

Regretably I did not go and my two tickets went to waste.
I'd spread myself too thinly over the weekend and something had to give. Based on the mileage and effort required it was Snetterton regretably.

Looks like you had a good day though. The weather was awesome in Stratford where I was. Typical. I live in Dubai and the only time I get out in the sun and get a nice tan is when I'm in England!

I'm used to the heat. I cycle 30Kms most days for fun! (nuts? Yes!) It's the humidity that kills you and makes your hair go crap!
Yesterday was perfect weather. And no sand in the air!

Sorry about wasting my tickets. It wasn't planned! Just a last minute ditch in order to fit other things in... I wonder if I know your sister?

I was only there for the Sunday activities, and being a relatively new elan owner and LECer, it was great to chat to other owners and be able to compare some other cars. My thanks go to all those who organised the event and congrats to all the new record holders! :-D

By the way, my car was the white one 8)

Hi I'd just like to say thanks for the organisation that went into this day, it was bloody fantastic!

The world record laps were great and going round in circles made for an even sun tan/burn

It was great to see people from LEC and do the usual name to faces link up.

But I have to say the parade laps were the highlight of the day for me, never having taken the Elan on track, hanging back from the car in front and the pace car allowed quite alot of toe down motoring, great to see what these cars to. (don't know what happened to the Elan behind me as there was a huge gap.

Cheers

Totally gutted that I missed the final parade lap, time was against me and I thought it wasn't going to happen  I used to race a Mini regularly at Snetterton in the 1970's and it would have been nice to blast round in the Elan. Oh well.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the organisation and as a newbie to the forum and Elan ownership it was great to meet you all. Particularly happy that Gareth was able to sell me a LEC sweatshirt. That alone made the day worthwhile!
Look forward to meeting all the Essex/Suffolk/Cambs/Herts people again when there is the a local meet.
Cheers again for a great day.
