Hand brake cables

It is something I have been thinking about and I do not have a problem ordering some more.
You can use the standard cables and I will supply a spacer for those but it is a more elegant solution to change the cables particularly if your existing ones are getting a little past their best. They seem prone to rust around the area they fit to the calipers.

Thanks Bob, as fate would have it, my car's due its MOT tomorrow and the handbrake's definitely a fail. I tried adjusting it with no success, so I'll see what Peter Smith says tomorrow. If I have to have new cables I'll be stuck with a set of new standard ones, if it just needs a bleed, then I'll be be up for a set of yours suitable for the hispec upgrade when it arrives...

When you say the handbrake is a fail it is probably not cable related but more likely the calipers themselves, the easy check is to disconnect the cables and if they move freely then it’s not those at fault.
If the hand brake is not working correctly and the lever is on its back stop the cable should only be adjusted to take the slack out of the cable, it can not be adjusted to make the handbrake work. One thing to try/check, make sure the lever is on its back stop and then apply the handbrake a few times, I have done this while also pressing the foot brake really hard and the hand brake has come back all be it still not brilliant, 6 clicks instead of 7 / 8. The new Hi spec calipers are 2 clicks.

I just wondered whether the cables were available now? When I met up with you at Donington they hadn't yet arrived.

Handbrake cables are here awaiting delivery, some have gone out with the rear brake upgrade so it is just the ones for the standard calipers.
If you are in the list for the new hubs they will ship with those just need to sort out the lists.

Anybody else fitted these? Seem to work very well with the brake upgrade but need to be a Russian weight lifter to get the handbrake to the first click.

This seems to be an issue with some cars due to a change in the handbrake lever design and the later S2 handbrake levers e.g. the ratchet starts further up the lever movement.
If you crimp the eye in the handbrake lever slightly, just enough so the cable can not come out and place a small amount of slack in the cable the hand brake should work better.
