Are these 5 axis machined? That's a fantastic price.

The 5 axis option actually proved more expensive (nearer $220 / pair). I've designed the parts so they can be machined all-over with at least a 1/2" diameter cutting tool - which can be run pretty fast

The parts will be machined on one side and the fixing holes put in, then they'll be flipped and held-down by the same while machining the outer surfaces. Costs - A contributory factor is that shops are looking for work...

Sounds like the perfect time to do a bespoke gearshift knob, oil filler cap, fascia (that would accept a double-din DVD/GPS screen of course), etc

We'll see how this project works out first - The key is finding a smart machinist/programmer that makes an effort to minimize machining time without compromising quality and finish - sadly a scarce breed. The guy I'll be working with is an experienced race car industry guy - usually they're 'the right stuff'...

Could you take a pic of an Elan door and mock it up in Photoshop so we can guesstimate the aesthetic?

I think it's his current signature picture...

Thanks, Elanlover, exactly what I was looking for.
Beautiful piece, but I'm not sure about the groove - how it doesn't meet up with anything on the door skin.

Here you go...

The 'groove' kinda rolls the edge radius of the door around the trailing edge of the billet handle, admittedly it does look a bit harsh and doesn't blend perfectly in the visuals...

Maybe I can tart-up the 3D prototype and take a snap of that?

Nothing that can't be fixed with a couple o' cans o' RustOleum spray paint...

Don't do anything too crazy on my account, that pic is exactly what I was hoping to see. Just have to think on it for a little while..
