Another day of pottering,
The chassis’s are both stripped and outside in the wind and the rain. (Awaiting chem clean and e-coat)
The rear chassis I intend to use has a slight corrosion issue... It's just where one of the rear out riggers joins. (it's began to lift and ripple where the spot welds are)
Moving on,
The green tub is totally stripped now.
I think I've just found a bit of project creep...
I'm getting very close to separating the top of the green car from the floor,
There are several reasons for doing this as the Silver tub has the following noteworthy points :-
1) The floor, boot, battery bay, rear wheel arches and the front wall of the tub all have monster damage. ( several 12" cracks in the fibreglass, bobins pulled thru etc)
2) It's totally different but exactly the same (Strange comment I know, but it is preproduction so nearly every panel has a quirk, all except the floor)
3) The corrosion is incredible, well past saving
4) The drivers floor has already been repaired, quite poorly too. (One of the cars many accidents)
5) I want and need as much of the old car as possible.
6) On the green car, the top of the A- post have light corrosion and this needs to be addressed
7) On the green car, the rear lightnening holes and B-posts have a little bit of corrosion.
Now to do this separation I will reveal quite a lot of the metal sub frame,
What I'm thinking is, why not do a little bit more stripping and remove the metal work totally and get it galvanised/repaired
The project is just about to get a little slower especially as my work commitments grow. So I don't think she'll be on the road for her 21st birthday.
Waiting for an engine stand to rock up tomorrow, so I must remove the gearbox pronto.
In addition I'm waiting for some cutting gear to remove the bonded panels and loads of 221.
I would take some pictures, but there just a big space on the floor at the moment.
I guess one day I will go the other way,
But here's a question, what colour would you do the Chassis, longerons, cross member, pongeron etc ?
I thought a combination of red for the big bits and black for the running gear with the odd red bit thrown in for good measure.
