LEC Southern Area Spin and BBQ. 16th August.

Postby muley » Sat 13.06.2009, 18:32

OK, just for a change this year I am happy to host the BBQ.

Suggestion is the rendezvous at the H+C around 11:00 then drive off to a beauty spot - e.g. Virginia Water for a pose and photos before going on to my place to cremate some poor unsuspecting sausages. The route might take in some other interesting bits.

Please tack you name onto this thread if you are interested.

Cheers

Bugger, I'm in the Netherlands that weekend otherwise I'd have been well up for some carbon-burgers :)

Thanks Jim. Looking promising for the S2 and Norma with all seats filled. Thought I was away on that day but it appears I'm not.

Sorry, I've only just seen this thread. I'll be up for it, Michelle should too, although she may be working a night on the 15th so might be a bit tired

*bump*

OK, please let me know if you are coming or not.

My suggestion is that I buy the sausages, burgers and chicken bits rather than them bouncing around in the boot all afternoon. Then you can pay me back?

Everyone happy with that?

If you PM me your mobile numbers I can text you on the day to say if it's go or no go - we won't bother if the weather is rubbish!

Cheers

OK, this event is still ON.

Plan is;

RV at H+C around 11:00.

Go to Frensham Ponds - bring picnic and chairs.Maybe go for a stroll there.

Head off to Barkham RG41 4DD possibly via Lasham air 'museum' and REME museum Arbourfield

Arrive around 4:00

BBQ and chat

er, that's it.

Another option is to go to Brooklands Museum then on to Barkham - better bet if the weather looks iffy - entrance fee is an eye-watering £9 But you can see a Concorde, Wellington etc. Pendle slot cars will be there and James May will be building a replic Brooklands circuit in Scalextric, apparently.

I'll post the routes for both options tomorrow.

See you Sunday

thanks for all your work on this Jim. If I use the VX it can be awkward getting into some places because it is quite low, so if access is to the ponds car parks are bumpy we might have to use Dees Megane but hey thats not a lotus either.

Come on Guys this only happens once a year so get yourself down to the H&C on sunday!!!

Thank you for organising this, jim.

Either of those plans sound great. Depending on how much sleep michelle gets at work (!) saturday night will depend on if she's there from the start. If she's too tired for that then can she meet up for the bbq, please?

Hi Jim

Sorry for the last minute response. I had to change a few arrangements so we can be there on Sunday. Either plan sounds good to me, I think Brooklands may be busy as there was a bit about it on Radio 2 last night but we are happy to do whatever.

Took the car out yesterday started first turn and ran fine but valves (lifters) are just too far gone to risk it going any great distance so we will be in a Megan Hope thats ok, aside from drink is there anything else we need to bring for BBQ?

Jim,

Either option sounds good to me, I'll definitely be there if me + 1 then in the S2, if the whole family come then we may be in the Alfa as Norma is off the road at the moment (out of MoT and the online bought tyres were out of stock and I've just come back from a short trip away). I'll discuss with Lynn later and see what she wants to do.

OK, thanks for getting back to me.

I would have responded earlier but the IT gremlins at work have disbarred anyone from accessing LEC (or ebay for that matter!) :(

See you Sunday - I'll respond separately to the PMs - thanks guys - you know who you are!

Thank you so much to Jen and Jim for really organising this day fantastically. Frensham was just like being at the beach and the run back to Wokingham took in some great roads. I really don't know what happened to the weather but it turned out great contrary to the forecast. Excellent nosh back at Jim and Jens (nice to have eat you Kevin ). So good to see you all as well in surroundings different from the H&C, can't wait til next year now!!

Thanks again, Chris & Deirdre

PS my photos came out really bad, hope Michelle got some good ones!?!

Hi Jim and Jan

Many thanks for putting on and organising the day out. We had a really great time and look forward to next year. As noted the weather was exceptional and I am currently still glowing from far too much sun!

The afternoon, drive back to Wokingham, BBQ, food, drinks and company were fantastic, so many thanks from us both.

We had a great day.

A thoroughly enjoyable day yesterday, sincere thanks to Jim and Jen for the organising and kind hospitality. We were blessed with the weather, so Jim has shaken off his 'rain man' moniker and I remember why I should wear a hat in the sunshine. Katie and Jonathan had a great time as well so did Lynn we arrived home tired but happy after an easy and traffic free run. It was all rather depressing going back to work today after a good week off.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

I'm pleased to be associated with sunny weather for once!

We should organise an autumn/winter spin to Brooklands methinks. It was VERY crowded there on Sunday by the way - the cafe sold out of soft drinks around midday, and the outside scalextric event was a farce, apparently.

(As a footnote, just after you guys left on Sunday, I popped out to get the paper and at the top of the road shifted from 1st to 2nd and ended up with a 'bucket load of neutrals' as my Dad would say - on checking the outer gear cable has given up the ghost - see parts wanted area!)

Cheers

Crikey, lucky it happened so close to home, though!

Michelle took a few. It was a very bright day, I think a filter needs to be bought. I've placed the photos here http://www.rjbean.co.uk/LECHCBBQ/index.html The quality isn't great because I shrunk them to save space but, if anyone wants a proper copy, let me know.
