Just a bit stiff and 'notchy' changing gear

Like the title says, it has just become a bit more difficult to change gear on my SE. There's just a slight resistance as I go from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th - and to engage reverse I sometimes need to let out the clutch and re-engage it.

It's just a bit stiffer and heavier than it was.

It shouldn't be the clutch, which is relatively new.

It shouldn't be fluids - Steve Williams did them a thousand miles ago.

Suggestions, gents?

Did you check the cables at the gearbox end?
Mini did something similar, and it turned out that one of the crimps in the cable @ gearbox end worked loose somehow.
I had a marine shop re crimp them and everything is brilliant again.

Sounds like you may have the early symptoms of this.

If it is this, tightening the responsible bolt should cure it & should take a few hours at most.
Mine gave no early symptoms at all. Once it went, the shims had slipped which meant that when the bolt was re-tightened, the gears were in the wrong place.

To reiterate what rip has said, get the nuts re-torqued as soon as possible. I took my box apart yesterday and found one of the nuts completely unwound and embedded in the end cover!

Gearbox now stuck in third, stick slipping about fore and aft freely.

Not the same symptoms as mine at all.
Doesn't mean to say it's not the same problem though.
Does it jolt when you engage the clutch? If it engages smoothly, then I suspect the selector or cables.

No jolting. The clutch seems fine, and I was able to drive, and (with lots of revs) to pull very gingerly away from near-stopped (got her to Steve Williams....)

I suspect/hope it's just cables/selector. With a new set of cables in the boot, that would be handy....

Though the lack of a bush (AB!!!!) is a pain in the harris.
