some of the kits will be sent very soon probably this week, I have been tied up a bit with work (late working) but back on the case now.
I have a couple of bits to sort out c/o Hi-spec as they did not heed my comments on the pins or the bit I wanted machined on the handbrake levers once I have those sorted it is just a case of boxing them up which sounds simple but still takes an hour or so.

Bob, a question just for the sake of myself and the (probably) couple of other people who might be interested:

Since I'll soon be in the position of having HiSpec fronts and your hub conversion at the rear, how much hassle will it be if/when I decide to go for the HiSpec rear calipers as well?
I assume I'd need the calipers and brackets, with pads and discs to match (& possibly handbrake cables?).

Given your experiences with HiSpec so far (we're all very grateful for your massive patience & effort here, btw!) I suppose it's likely to be an almighty pain in the neck to get rear calipers at some later date? Would you still be willing to arrange it and supply brackets? Do you reckon you'd still be able to get a discount from HiSpec thanks to all the business you've put their way?

I just want to get a clear idea of my prospects and likely costs for completing the rear upgrade in the future. Since the stock rears are working ok for now and the front HiSpecs mean I'm 90% happy with the brake situation I couldn't justify the extra cost when this list started, but after a few more paydays I might think about completing the process and getting some rear calipers that bleed properly...

If you wanted to upgrade the rears and you have the rear hub conversion and suitable front brakes (which you have) then it would only mean ordering the calipers from Hi-spec and making the brackets etc.
It is worth noting that the rear calipers were made up by Hi-spec to my specification so that they would fit the Elan all be it I still make up an adapter to fit the handbrake cables. Hi-specs listed handbrake calipers will not fit with out some modifications to the handbrake cable.
As it stands I can still get calipers at a discounted price both front and rear but the rears seem to take Hi-spec a while to produce and I am quite willing to continue supplying both front and rear kits.

I have been asked by a couple of people now with regards to yet another run on the rear hubs and I may well start yet another list but it will not be untill all the current and pending stuff is out of the way and will require at least 20 pairs.

Meant to say sooner (haven't been on here for a bit) - two big boxes arrived for me last week, which I went to collect from the depot. Not knowing what they were, I rocked up on my motorbike only to discover it was my brakes . Went back later on in the car to pick them up.

I've only opened the box with the fronts so far, but just wondered what the two metal rings are that are in amongst all the bits and pieces? And are all the bolts etc for the caliper brackets in there somewhere too? I'm sure I'll figure it out when I come to put it all together.

Many thanks to Bob for all your efforts putting these kits together. Really looking forward to getting the stuff on the car after having maintained (endured) the standard setup for the past 5 years of ownership. Hoping this will freshen the car up enough to make me want to keep it for another 5 years (well, along with the long overdue mountain chip now that I know I'll be able to slow the car down!)

I met up with Bob the other week to pick up the parts for the rear disc conversion - I'm just starting it now, but have to say what a well thought out conversion, many thanks Bob - although project creap has set in and I will be getting rid of any corrosion under the back of the car as well followed by a nice lick of POR15 !!!!!

Hi again Bob,
Another question for interest's sake.

I'm currently fairly (~90%) happy with my brakes:
front - HiSpec upgrade w/275mm discs & your standard pads
rear - standard (plus I've ordered your rear hubs and new discs to go with the standard calipers).

The HiSpec fronts gave a really nice improvement on stock performance. I was planning on HiSpec rears at some point, but as I hear that there may be another run of anodised pins I'm considering the option of sticking with the standard rear calipers longer term and freeing up some cash for other things on the "to-do" list.

In this case, do you think it would be possible to bring the brake balance back to (or closer to) stock 70/30 by differing the pad material front and back? My gut tells me this might be fraught with problems as different pads behave differently as they heat up, making it hard to predict how the balance would change in use. Also I fear the standard sized rear discs may not really be up to dissipating much more heat.

Still, I'm no brake expert. If I could replace the pins and find a set of rear pads that brought me back close to 70/30 balance with the HiSpec fronts, I'd be a happy camper. Are you able to calculate how varying pad materials would affect brake balance on my setup? Alternatively, can you point me at a good reference that'd explain how I might calculate this myself?

I sent nearly 1100GBP on 4 May 2009 for a full set of front & rear brakes. They haven't arrived yet so I assume the run is still in progress.
I would really, really like somebody to tell me when I'm likely to get these brakes.
