I think the bump on the head was of the back of the head part of the seat, if u feel the very top of the seat further back u can feel the metal, just shows how hard my head was thrown back :o

Wonder what the insurance would ask for her ??? say we count out the front for spares, except for possible, engine and box maybe turbo etc. what will the car make in parts?

There is no way on earth they will repair that, I'm afraid.

The guide for writing a car-off is if the repairs are more than 60% of the cars value.

4 years ago I had a new front clam and a door and that was close to £3500 and weeks of waits for the parts.

I also had a quote from LRV for the cooling system, ie rad, 2 fans, etc and that was almost £1500 incl labour.

Let's hope they will sell it back to you for a reasonable amount so that you can use the good bits.

Out of interest, where is it?

Manchester? Wigan? Bolton?
I'm back :D

When I eventually worked out what that last picture was, I was appalled.

I've often wondered about the lack of safety for taller drivers on our Elan seats - being 6'2" my seat top is level with the nape of my neck.
Last night, I loaded up the Freelander with my two spare (grey/yellow) donor seats to take to Hethel this morning to have refurbished and retrimmed.
I'm really not sure about the practicality of this exercise now - that "U" shaped metal bar over the top rear of the seat back is undoubtedly the culprit behind Monty's second head.
Personally, whilst I don't harbour any plans to stuff Stripey into Armco, recent events (Monty and now Stef) serve to remind all that "things can happen".
Stripey's interior face lift can wait...I'm going to explore a high-backed seat (yes, wide as well!) and four-point (extra long!) harness refit - bollocks to keeping it "Lotus" just for the sake of it. However, I may well find cost-prohibitive factors scuppering my ideas.

I reckon the dampers fitted to the car in the early 90s have degraded to the point where the back end of the car is made unstable by bumps in poor grip conditions (don't ask me how I know). I believe rear damper peformance is especially critical in the Elan due to the front heavy nature of the car. I advise anyone who hasn't replaced their dampers to do so :-/

I changed my dampers 18months ago as the car was twitchy at high speeds. You could feel the rear moving around on the motorway, even more so around the bends.

It felt MUCH better after the new ones were fitted. Easy diy job and not too expensive, get it done peeps, before this happens to any one else.

had his rear end fixed a couple of months back at a well known lotus dealers, his rear suspension raised by about one and a half inches Shocked. could have been a factor, certainly did'nt look right.

Now there`s a thought, cause the front suspension was very stiff, even on it`s lowest setting. It was kinda weird were i lost it, as before replacing the wishbones. I Hammered the corners on the tops with no problems and they were rotten if u remember :-/ ???
Think i do need to lie down ::)

I`ll try again.
Now there`s a thought, cause the front suspension was very stiff, even on it`s lowest setting. It was kinda weird were i lost it, as before replacing the wishbones/dampers (last year) when I first got the car use to hammer her around those corners on the tops/country lanes with no problems and those wishbones were rotten (which i didn`t know) back then if u remember. So what i`m saying is with what ever dampers CN`s put on the rear and the AVO`s on the front has that upset the balance of the car
