LEC Stand at the Parts Fair

Although I haven't yet received official notification from Club Lotus or an invitation to display I will take the LEC stand to the parts fair to give us a focal point at the event. Details have yet to be worked out but I'll post them here as they develop. As the fair is only one day I will probably be looking at a scaled down version of what we did at Donington. As ever any ideas for how we might publicise LEC and our cars are welcome.

I've had an invite from Club Lotus to have a LEC stand at the parts fair and will take the basic stand we have used at Donington to provide a LEC focal point. Thinking beyond that I'm interested to know if people wish to use the parts sale as an opportunity to sell any of the bits they may have acquired over the years.

The idea I have therefore is that we have a stand similar to that at Donington from which we sell any LEC merchandise we have, that would be in the trade stand category. We also have an autojumble category space where LEC members can bring spares they wish to sell and if sold then a % of the sale price goes to LEC to recover the cost of the outlay (this scheme works well locally for second hand kids stuff, I'm thinking 10% contribution). All sale items would need to be marked with the sellers name and the selling price, only the seller can agree to sell for less. Unsold items go home with the seller and sellers will need to collect their takings from the stand before departing the event. I think we can provide a service to members, allow them to sell parts they don't need, possibly to a wider audience than those on this site.

Views welcomed, we are not committed to anything and if interest isn't high then we can just sell through the LEC display stand. As Club Lotus will be charging for display space I am content to sell from the Stand but I don't really want the LEC Stand to be an autojumble. However, we can always go to the parts fair with the intent of doing it as an autojumble/M100 Bring and buy and keep Donington as a display event.

Despite the low turnout, I'm pleased to say that weather was brilliant and we covered the cost of the stand.

So the van full of parts didn't quite materialise due to the rather hectic events at home/work of the last couple of weeks.

However, I have a garage full of spares from "passed" Elans "donated" by some of the LEC members. A large proprtion of the monies from the eventual sale of these will go to the LEC coffers to fund our presence at events such as today and whatever we do at/instead of Donington come spring. Many of those there today enquired about the normal replacement parts (i.e rear lights). Would those that did enquire, and those others that require parts, please drop me a PM so that I can check whether I can help or not. I would rather you bought from me and helped LEC and the "donaters" than your money go to some of the traders types that I saw today.

If anyone wishes to "donate" unwanted parts then please also let me know.

I'm not trying to duck donations....honest(!)...note to self to get on to Geoff immediately(! !)...just a discussion point.

.....but how would you feel about a swap shop? eg we talked about that o/s quarterlight plastic trim yesterday Dave. If I do ever manage to get my Pre-cat off, I'd be very pleased to swap it for that bit of trim. Would that sort of thing be on...or does that rather miss the point of providing funding for LEC?
