door window dropping

I got the dreaded "clunk" one day and the passenger window dropped to the bottom. I removed the assembly expecting the worst (not exactly sure what the worst is...) but all the parts seemed to be intact. It appeared that the cable had popped loose from the slider. It had also gotten tangled up in the motor housing. After quite a bit of time, I got it all put back together, attached power and ran the slider up and down a few times, so it seemed to be good. After reinstalling and attaching the window glass, and running the window down, it popped off again. I removed the whole thing, rewound the cable again, and ran it with power before putting it back in. Again it worked fine outside the door, but this time when I installed and tested, the window dropped when it was almost fully up. Each time, the cable has apparently popped free from the slider block. I can't figure what's causing this. Any suggestions?

It sounds as thou your cable has stretched,

When you refitted the wires back into the slider, were they a total git to fit.... (They should be)

Yes, the cable tension was really tight to get them on there.

As a follow up... I just removed the whole unit again and upon close inspection comparing with photos from the forum here, it appears that this unit has been tinkered with in the past. The top of the rail is bent as if to allow the slider to be removed or replaced and the slider itself appears to be for the wrong side. That would explain why the butterfly seemed to be on upside down and the tab was broken off. I'm not sure if all that contributes to the cable snapping out, but I definitely want to fix it up right. Where can I find a right side slider and butterfly?

A final follow up on this project. I got a new right side slider block, butterfly clip and orange lock clip from Dave Bean. Found time this weekend to put the motor/cable assembly back together and thoroughly test before reinstalling the door panels. Everything worked great, so I got it all back good as new.

I decided to clean off the old slider (in case I ever need a left side repair) and that's when I found that there was a barely noticeable crack in the bottom of the slider. That's why the cable kept coming loose... when it reached the end of travel, the force on the cable just snapped it out of the slider.

Thanks to the forum posts with pictures and tips - really helped me on this repair!
