Replacement seatbelts

guys just been reading the manual and it says you need to remove the sill plate to get the B post cover off ?? is this correct as I need to replace my belts and don't want to remove anything unnecessary

Don't think so David, think when we did mine it was a case of sliding back and away, but not 100% sure. Have you got new belts yet?

Are you getting just new retractors or belts as well?

I changed my passenger seat belt mech over without having to remove the sill plate. Bit of a pig finding +all+ the screws that hold the B post in place IIRC

Here is the quote I've had back from Sue. I'm not sure which version I have as I haven't removed them yet ??? I've also asked for a price for replacements so I can swap them in one go and also could share them with other members so they can order replacements without removing the old ones .

thanks I've downloaded the page from the manual which shows the fixing locations so hopefully it will be easy to remove does anyone know which type is in our cars ? i assume its the 1st one in the attachment as I seen Autoliv mentioned in other posts

It's good to see the prices haven't gone up...

I'll see if I can find my sealtbelts, it may give you a heads up on which style we have. (Camera on standby)

On another front, a few years ago when I chatted to Steve (The designer of the seat belt) he mentioned something about a difference internally to the retractor, IIRC it's bespoke to the Elan,

So using Sue is the way to go and it's cheaper than Lotus for the exact same product.

That's correct,

The reason is you can't get the B-Post pillar loop, (The company went bust over a decade ago, even thou Steve has had a batch made just for Lotus)

Steve manufactures the new Elan seatbelt, these are sold by the Lotus aftersales department, (80 squid). ( Sue has direct access to Steve and his parts bin)

Moving on,

I've have two types of seatbelt. (There's a tag easily visible, what have you got?)

Pt No A100UOO48F on the 89' Elan

Pt No C100U0048F on the 91' Elan

So on that premiss there would of been a B100UOO48F (Even if it never made production)

Saying all that, the seat belts which are now available from Lotus are Pt No F100U0048F.

So there are pottentially six types.

I guess the only way you'll now is to have a look.

Intresting point of note, I have an 89' Britax retractor on the 89' Elan with an Autoliv Ltd Belt...

I'm ?? only numbers I can see are an orange tag E4 0419022 and a white one with Model No 60320606-00 ?? I must have missed a tag ?? they also have Autoliv on the tag ?

Decided to just take them out and send them off will have to wait a week or so as its in for fluid changes and shortshift fitting on Wednesday next week

..if anyone needs driver's side mechs to use while they get theirs rebuilt I have three good secondhand ones. All completely different (one (Australian(!)) was installed on the passenger side on the S2, but that's another story!)

finally removed mine on monday and sent 1st class monday 3pm got e-mail from fdts yesterday saying should be back today wednesday, super fast service

Turned up on wed as Sue said, now back in the car and sunshine to go out and check they work
