Here are the numbers for the S2 rear damper as they appear on the shock. If anyone locates some new ones please contact me asap as ive pulled the damper of my daily driver to get these numbers...

Marcus, thanks very much for the effort but the C100D6011H is an SE rear damper -- see page 237 of the V6 Parts Manual. Has it maybe been replaced at some point?
All of the 8116 XXXX YYY numbers have drawn a blank so far, so I'm not hopeful of finding a cross reference.

I'll be contacting Lotus about this shortly. Initially emailed Dave Eds as Lotus Liason Lead but have not had any reply so will now plow my own furrow.
Whether Lotus will be inclined to disclose OEM part numbers or specification (for bits they no longer sell) remains to be seen. If you can't wait that long then I'd be inclined to go for the AVO PH748 (rears). PH747 fronts.
This is supposed to be an OEM Replacement but will need setting up for length/ride height as well as damper characteristics.
Remember that a full tank, with or without occupants, or a load of stuff in the car or boot, makes a difference.

Hmm, thought id done us all a favour this time I guess the plot thickens.

All the suspension components on my car have been painstakingly hand painted red at somepoint along with the brakes and parts of the chassis in yellow (i assume they didnt come from the factory this way??). It looks like this paint job was done many years ago and the damper I removed was also covered in red paint so it has been on there a while.

The car definitly hasnt had a damper from 2003 onwards (at the very latest) where the milage was 57K. I guess its plausable that a damper could have gone in less than 10 years? but only 50K or less? Otherwise (and im throwing this one out there)... could lotus have fitted S1 dampers (or modified S1 dampers with the same casing) in the factory...maybe why we cant seem to get the monroe numbers...? Seems strange that the car would have gone through two sets in 15 years at only 68K... can someone take an s2 from a dealer and take it for an extended test drive so we can pull the shock and check the number ...

Dont know what to do regarding replacing the shocks. I may put the old one back on (with new top mounting bush rubbers... ) and wait to see if we can find some nice fit and forget oem equvalents over the next few weeks... ive no experience of setting damper rates so id much rather use a damper thats as close the the oem as possible.

Here is what is wrong with my current shock: when its fully extended (off the car) you can depress it about an inch or so before the resistance comes in... im guessing the resistance is supposed to be present all the time. I had the shock off as I have a clunk over small pot holes etc which i had thought was the rubber stem bushes which mount the top of the damper to the chassis... the ones taken off were very flat compared to the replacements ive got)

Current (5/11/2009) status on availablity is as follows:
Neither the front nor rear spring/damper assemblies for RowSE/S2 is available.
Front Spring: RowSe/S2: B100C0086F (Yel/Yel/Grn) Available
Front damper: All except Federal: F100C6015F Available but back ordered at Lotus
Rear Spring: ALL except Federal: B100D0017F (Grn/Yel/White) Available
Rear Damper: ALL except Federal: E100D6011F Not Available

The above is from Grange Lotus (Preston) and Nigel (parts manager) rang Lotus after I gave him the numbers.
Dunno about Federal (everything) or N/A (front springs) but when I make Lotus enquiry, I'll include those numbers and see what they say.

The rear S2 setup is recommended by Lotus for rear NA/RowSE/S2 -- only application it is not appropriate for is the Federal setup. Dunno about any of the Federal setup availability yet (I'll enquire) but the rear dampers for NA/RowSE/S2 (E100D6011F) are not available.

Hmmmm curious. Makes me feel better about my car. I was a little concerend that my car looked liked it had gone through two sets in 70K/15 years!

I changed mine at 42,000, roughly 4 years ago and can't see anything in the previous invoices. I don't have all from the first 5 years though.

Thanks for looking for the numbers Gazza. It may be that the SE shocks were put in because the S2 rear dampers were discontinued in 2002/2003 as far as my research can tell.
The SE part would have been the closest replacement. Think your idea about Nige/Avonvilla looking at theirs is a good one. At the weekend, I may try to get the numbers off mine.
That is if I can see them without removing them from the car as it is the daily driver while the SE gets an engine, rad re-core, Gordon's fans and Lord knows what else that Project Creep will incur.

I replaced them in 2005 and they had not been done in the previous 5 years(checked invoices). Dealer who did the work for me said at the time they were the original set up going on their condition.

They are near the bottom of the dampers on the outer casing, but they might be hard to see depending on if they are facing outwards or not.

Yes they are on the wheel end, dont know if they face inside or outside though, it could be pot luck.
