Bob, any advise?

Kind regards

Is yours a Kia Elan?

If it has all the crash structure of the fed cars and a/c then I would be inclined to a fed setup
Best way would be to weigh the car preferably front axle and rear axle independently

Yes, it is the Kia. but I have removed the a/c this year (weight rulez :wink: ) So ok... I will have a look, where I could measure the curbweights. I´ll be back 8)

Thank you Bob.

Asumming the mounts are the same then I see no reason why the dampers can not be made for your car as the weight will not be that much different and if my trawl of the web is correct the N/A version was 125HP and weight was 1068Kg now the ride height will have an effect on the suspension but the dampers can be engineered to suit and would not cost any more as it probably only means a change of spring length and a longer piston rod.
If you look at the image can you do a comparison between what you have and the image plus some pictures of the front and rear suspension would be useful.

The Kia should have 136PS and a weight of 1090 kg. For now I have saved 15kg... So should be 1075 at the moment. Further 8kg less should be done in this winter... So I will reach the 1068 of yours.

I have any documents of the car but there is no picture like yours... I have to do it for myself... At last a very good picture of the front damper is missed too :( Do the attached help for your rating?

They look the same so I do not see fore see any problems, interesting the brakes are similar on the front but it looks like a different caliper on the rear and the handbrake cable has a different route.
Weight should not be too much of an issue as the maximium differance is between the N/A and turbo models at around 50lbs/per front wheel and that one may require a slighly reduced spring rate to maintain the ride height, it would depend more on the ride heights but again that should be easy to calculate non of it should prove difficult once the design is done tested and tuned.

Sport £1099.40 + delivery

Sport+ £1375 + delivery

I was hoping it would be slightly cheaper than this.

For me thats going to be £1400 plus fitting

I would say that I am still in but won't have to let Nicky know the price.

There was talk the price included fitting... is this still the case or not?

Also... how close to the standard road set up is the Sport ? I don't want to sacrifice comfort for a more 'sporty' setup.

Tony,
If you are only using the car on track occasionally then I would opt for the rubber top mounts and this may be an instance where poly mounts may come into their own as there is very little movement at the top of the mount, it only has to cope with the slight movement due to compliance in the wishbone bushes and the slight movement due to suspension as it travels up and down. I will see what the cost implications are with regards to replacing the top rubber bushes, as I think these are no longer available, with polyureathane ones but they will not cost the same as a pillow ball (spherical bearing) top mount.

Chris,
Not discussed fitting as such but I'm working on it.
The road set up although called "Sport" by Nitron will not sacrifice the ride quality that the cars currently enjoy or at least the ones with suspension in reasonable condition as those with higher mileage are going to have worn dampers. Also it will be possible to change the ride to suit the individual as the dampers are adjustable all be it limited in the range that is covered so you could stiffen things up if needed.

Bobby

I will only be using car on track 2-3 times per year. But I was gutted to be passed constantly by Elises last time. I know they will still be better than mine but hope I will at least be able to put up a fight next time.

ps Thank you for your persistence and hard work to get this project off the ground an through to final product.

Cheers

@Bob
I have now measured the hights… the X-value is a bit tricky as is it a adopted angle…

I have the following results:

Y= 140mm
X= 160mm underedge lower front-wishbone or 185mm middle of the bolt wishbone/frame

Does this help a bit?

Regards

EDIT: measured with S2-Rims and 205/45/16 on her. Stock were 15" with 205/55/15 (which are now only the winterrims Image )

EDIT2 :roll: with a special geo (...for porschebattles on legal roads ;) )

If this is still ongoing come January and I get any kind of bonus this year I'll be back in... but short of that, cash is tight right now and the NSF has started to make a suspicious noise... :(

Don,

The tyres do make a bit of a differance so the original 15" tyre size was 205 55 15 on the Kia Elan? this raises the car 10.5mm when compared to the standard Lotus Elan SE on 205 50 15 and the differance is -8mm when going from 205 55 15 to 205 45 16 assumiong my calculations are correct but not enough to worry about.
If your measurements are correct then the rear is slightly lower and the front slightly higher but not by a lot and running the car a little lower is not such a bad thing, plus as the spring seats are adjustable then the car could be raised that small amount on the front and lowere a small amount on the rear and it should only change the preload on the springs by a small amount. Or if you need to maintain the current ride height a slightly longer damper would be required but the only way to be 100% it to take off a damper and measure it and get the current spring rates.
