Anyone interested in????

Postby Tannerman » Sun 22.11.2009, 16:59

Hi Guys, i have just come back from a weekend away in Muker Swaledale North Yrokshire.

The place is beautiful and has some fantastic surrounding roads and also a great little pub that sells real ales.

We stopped in a B =B in Muker which was fantastic and really friendly, They have already said if we book in advance they will accomodate us.

I was thinking about March time, Start Saturday morning and all meet up just out of Leeds then convoy through the countryside to Muker over the Butter tubs pass (which Clarkson uses all of the time to test new cars) then wind down the pass into Muker.

Check in at the B+B (around £40 to £50 per head per night). We then have several options the more energetic can go on a steady walk, go to the pub,Have a sleep or convoy up to Tan Hill the highest pub in Britain and chat and talk pistons.

That evening can be spent at the Farmers Arms pub which is about 200 yds from the B+B.

It would be a cracking weekend at not much cost and i could organise the walks convoy accomodation etc if people are interested.

Your thoughts??

Cheers

Sounds like a very good idea to me. I'm away to get my AA road map out  LOL

Seriously though, although it's a long drive for me, I'm always up for a bit of exploration in other parts of the country. and there are some fantastic drives in N. Yorks. When roughly in March were you thinking of ?

Hi Guys, I was thinking about the 2nd Saturday in March which is the 13th.

We could all meet just outside of Leeds then convoy through Ilkley (roof down singing local songs) then upto Skipton.

Through Skipto and onto Ingleton then join the B6255 through to Hawes, Half way down the 17 mile ribbon road is a beautiful Via duct, we could either stop there for a photo shoot or carry on into Hawes, Through Hawes onto the butter tubs pass.....Now the fun starts..This road is nuts and the views are awesome..See the link below.

Any car is welcome but i think an all Lotus outing would be something to behold.

Cheers

That's a great part of the country, I've been there many times including this summer - which leads me to suggest that the Tan Hill Inn isn't necessarily a good idea. The road up from Swaledale goes through a couple of villages and there are plenty of wandering sheep; which isn't so bad, but the Inn itself has some people in charge who don't seem to be running it as well as in the past.

It's maybe not such an adventure, but the Crown in Askrigg (Wensleydale) has a good reputation for pies. If full, try the White Rose across the road. Also, the Palmer Flatt Hotel in Aysgarth is very welcoming with decent food, and a couple of minutes from the Falls.

The A684 is a wonderful drive, hope you enjoy it.

No I only wanted to go to Tan hill for a beer and show people the highest pub, I don't want to stay there.

The venue would be Bridge house in Muker a fantastic well run B+B and a hop skip and a jump from the Farmers Arms pub.

We could also visit Askrigg for a pie or 2 for Dico

Or later in the year as well :P . Nothing like a nice crisp March walk, especially if theres a pub/pub lunch at the end of it.

I'm up for this for sure, March is good for me :-)

If you want to do it a bit later in the year (when the weather is warmer for southern softies like me), then that's good also. I'd quite happily it twice!
