Saturday Morning Convoy - Rendezvous, Start Point and Route

Plan is to meet at an appropriate RV and have the now traditional Elan convoy into the Showground, LEC arrive in style!

Suggestions for an appropriate RV are welcomed from those with local knowledge or who had the opportunity for a Recce at the Parts fair in Oct 09, I anticipate it will be a longer run than has been the case at Donington so the 2 key requirements are location and car parking for a large number of Elans.

Two suggestions to kick off
1. there is a big layby about half a mile from M50 jct 1 heading towards Worcester (northbound) with a transport cafe (not a van). 8 miles to the showground. 52.2.33N 2.10.11W

2. there is a public carpark on the Malvern road at Upton on Severn but no cafe close. 4.5 miles to the showground.

We passed both of these on the route in October

I thinking 2 things.....
1st where are we staying?..
2nd does it have a big car park?.

if we ended up at a travelodge thing would it not be advisable to start there??...
Im just thinking that if we do get 50~60~70 or even 80 cars then a layby might not be advisable....you dont want to start cars queuing on the main road
to the point of where we are staying then Im thinking how far do we want to convoy?....
there are some places which have the facilities but theyre about 10~15miles away....is that too far to 'convoy'?

I agree with Geoff as the A38 layby gives is at least 2 lines of 200m, is close to the motorway arrivals area and gives us a decent (7 mile) run into the showground.

ok.....allowing 5m per car (std parking bay) that gives us room for 80 cars.....what about movement?......public access?....all just questions......dont wanna pi$$ local plod off

I'm sure Sy's paddock would accompany 80 cars A quick blast down the M5 from Bromsgrove to Worcester junction, round the ring road and onwards to Malvern. Perfect

I would say that the layby would be great if there aren't many lorries parked. Breakfast time on a Saturday morning, my bet is that it will be pretty busy.

the only reservation I had was the lack of ammenities......
us blokes are ok as any tree will do......but for the ladies......erm...a different story...

no coffee either........but I suppose that can be instant in a flask

I can't comment on the layby itself, but there is a bit of a building at the bottom of the picture, and if you look at the number of lorries parked up........


....as Dico will no doubt confirm, you aint gonna get that many wagons where there are no bacon butties! (if it was that good, I'd expect to see a Cop Car there as well)

the only thing Id thought of was that anyone staying on friday night would end up driving past the show ground to the rendezvous and then back again.......

Yes, you are right!!

That is the cafe at the bottom of the pic, at the Southern end of the lay-by. If we are thinking of using the lay-by and not the Bransford hotel (where Gareth is staying) for the rendezvous I will contact the cafe owner to "warn" them and to ask about usual Fri overnight/Sat morn traffic if you like.

Well, there isn't a problem with lorries in the layby on Saturdays. Thats because the cafe is only open during the week!!

It looks like the Bank House Hotel at Bransford could be the best local start point, but its a drive of 8 miles through Malvern town.

Saturday mornings can be quite busy at GC's might be worth checking with the Club/Hotel

the hotel is the next big building up.......just off your pic....
I cant get the plan and pic as Im at work
but we'd have the car park from the hotel which holds 370 cars......well thats what they told me
