I too have sent around £750 back at the start of September 2009 with the understanding that delivery would be immenent. It wasn't! And despite many promises of "Next week" several times over, nothing has arrived!

I am very anxious to get hold of what I paid for and was promised (many times over) A.S.A.P...

Not wishing to cause annoyance to anybody, and granted people have large amounts of cash in this and it has gone a bit quiet around here...

...but we need to remember that:
a) this isn't a retail situation, it's a group buy,
b) Hi-Spec have proven somewhat difficult to deal with thus far and this is probably still the case,
c) Bob has mentioned being very busy several times recently, and this is something he's doing in spare time for all our benefit, not as a job.

So yes I'd be interested to hear how it's going but I'm being patient and I hope others will too.
And I'm not just saying this because my throttle cable project's nearly 6 months old!

So what's happening with this then? How many people are waiting?
I understand the logistical problems but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting a little frustrated!
Any news??? :?

I've finally got my rear brakes fitted now!

The car was due for a service and MOT and I hadn't got around to fitting the new brakes yet, but I had a certain "feeling" about the original discs and how they'd cope with the MOT test, so I just put the box of bits into the boot and told the garage about them in the event of failure!

I have to say that I'm very pleased - the brakes work well, although the handbrake is a lot heavier now, but it still works fine.

Yes, I did have to wait a long time for the rear brakes to arrive, but I'm certain it's not Bobs fault - he's at the mercy of Hi-Spec. The kit he has put together is of great quality and fits with no problems at all.

Be patient and ye shall receive and be rewarded! :D

Does anyone know what kind of labour hours we're talking about to fit this package?

I suppose that depends on the condition of your car (rusted bolts, etc. will cost you more time) and your relative skill/comfort with this type of thing. My car was in great shape so I didn't lose any time there and my skills are perhaps mid level if you will. It took me about an hour to remove the brakes and hubs and another hour to fit the new gear. Bleeding, testing and bedding were a few more hours. I've no doubt it can be done in less time but I wasn't in the mood for a rush job.

I did mine this w/e. I'm the slowest of slow things on an official go slow, so I suspect anyone else would be quicker. I also admit to having had a mate help on Saturday!

Friday spent about 8 hours. Essentially just removed and replaced the fronts....though actually did the left side twice cos I made the elementary mistake of initially fitting the rh disk on the left....didn't relise they were handed til I got to the second box and wondered what the felt tip "GL" meant written on the lid - and then saw a GR on the other box already fitted - doh! Still it only added about an hour.

On the Saturday Pete and I did the rears in about 6 hours. We did a fair amount "together", but some of the time he was working on the right while I was working left so there was definitely added manhours - maybe as much as a 10 hour stint if it had been me alone? The rears were much more difficult because it meant replacing the hub and bearings as well as disks and calipers. We also did the first round of bleeding the new system...

...but it turned out to need at least two rounds of bleeding and then the handbrake adjusting which overall took me another 4 hours on Sunday. Haven't yet bedded in or even road tested!

So that totals up to maybe 20 hours or more. If you ask a professional, they'd probably quote about a tenth of that for the whole job. But then they would have some obvious method of (eg) getting the rear bearing shells into the new hubs without having to think up or make a tool! They'd have enough stands to take all four wheels off at once (instead of one axle at a time - takes about 20 -30 mins to swap ends), and so on. And of course I'm as happy as Larry pottering about in the barn and have no incentive to rush, whereas to a professional its just another job to get out of the way.

Oh and quick edit to say thanks again to Bob. Great kit ,,,,,

I did the full swap at the front and replaced the hoses & pipes at the rear.

It took about 20 mins to remove the front caliper & disk on one side, a quick clean and the new bits went on, maybe 50 mins total, including dawdling.
It then took me all b* day to get the disk off the other side due to a seized & knackered retaining screw. Get an impact driver now if you don't have one yet (I got a little mallet-driven one, it's fine and can fit in small gaps). Half the fasteners on my car are seized tight. If I'd had one at the beginning I'd have had the whole job done in about 2.5-3 hours.

Don't bother struggling with the brake hose clips, they're a pain to get off undamaged and they don't clip on securely again afterwards. Just cut/bend/rip them off and order new ones - A100J6039F FLEXI HOSE RETAINING CLIP - you'll need 10 to do the whole car, they're cheap from Lotus.

Bob's HiSpec kit is great, brilliant improvement.

Not sure how much Lotus charge, but they are a fairly common fittment to many cars, and i got some at a local motor factor for 30p each :D

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Hi Bob,

Is there a plan for another run of rear hub conversions along with the HiSpec caliper? If there is, and that's what this list is for, then I'm in for the entire rear setup, including handbrake cables if you can, for 15" wheels.

Cheers, Candles.

Hi Bob,

I too would be interested in a rear hub set with a front and rear caliper upgrade for standard 15" SE wheels.

Paul.
