Why such a low turnout this year ?

Postby Rambo » Tue 06.04.2010, 23:00

Looking at the numbers for the curry night and Sat convoy the numbers for Malvern are way down on what we have come to expect for Donington.

Why :?:

Is it the credit crunch, apathy, change of venue, less people in LEC, the fact that Man. Utd. won't be there ......

What :?:

I'm guessing change of venue has a lot to do with it although there does appear to be a few that simply can't afford it now!!

For me it was the venue. I didn't even know where Malvern was - beyond the fact that it was 'up the M5 somewhere over towards Wales......'

I assumed that it was further away than it was.

And though looking at the map it's closer than Donington, the sat nav, she say it takes longer to get there ...... though not as long as I'd have guessed.

yep....I reckon venue....
lack of hotels (cheap or otherwise to accomodate more than a couple of people
unknown venue........well still in reality an untested venue

it is all the great unknown really

it took a good few years to get the numbers up at donington too.....but once it was all sorted more came.....

'build it and they will come'.... :-D

altho if its a pile of rubish then I reckon it'll get less and less.....
probably a bit like stoneleigh

In addition there's no track....

Is there anything on at silverstone like last year?

I thought that a lot of it had been flattened, including the exhibition centre, so maybe it will require a lot of rebuilding?

More will probably be going than have currently posted.
I do fully intend being a part of the convoy but have not decided which route I will be taking there or if I will be driving up with others...which is why I have not committed to anything via a posting yet.
I imagine the unknown factor will be similar for others too.

Elaners from Scotland, the South-West & overseas have always attended Donington in the past so distance should not be that much of a factor.

Will be at the show but I do not know what my timings are going to be and if I leave later than intended may just miss the convoy it as it's a 145mile run so would need to leave at 6am to get there for 9am.

I'd definitely be coming if I didn't have a commitment that weekend. Unfortunately Team GB Management don't like people missing training sessions...

Team GB? Get you, Adam!

Only kidding.

This gives us all the opportunity to congratulate you, to wish you well, and hopefully prepare ourselves to bask in reflected glory.

Not Olympics, unfortunately... they (somewhat irrationally) removed my discipline from the Games after an unrelated incident in 1972. We're training for the World Champs in Australia in October 2011. Anyway, this is a bit off topic!

Well I know of 2 Elaners from Norfolk way who would have come if it was at Donington - I suppose there are not many people from out West to redress the balance..

could be on the right lines, 4 hours each way from norwich might just take the sting out of it for me. last year we went to donny on the saturday and silverstone on the sunday on the way home, but this year the elise racing at silverstone is on saturday leaving a lot of travelling on the sunday. still not decided yet though, would be a shame to miss it this year :(

Just bad timing for me this year. Clashes with the SRC granite rally, so I will be doing my rally marshalling bit. Could make the Sunday, but don't fancy driving all that way on the saturday afternoon only to drive back late on the sunday.

I will be at the show but cannot make the convoy on Saturday as the car will be inside. Will try and be outside for the photos instead :D
