I have my 91 Federal M100 booked for an alarm and keyless entry install on tuesday and to their credit they have already researched the car and discovered it uses the 'single wire system'. Does anyone have the federal (if not i am sure the Uk spec is similar for the locks) wiring diagram for the key unlock standard system. Also does anyone know if Lotus used the ground as the second wire?
Any help greatly appreciated as the more info i give them the less hours they will be charging me

The electrical manual does not mention any differences between Federal & RHD (other than the location of the CDL Module) so pages 23, 24 & 25 of the electrical manual are what you need.
If you haven't got it let me know and I'll email it.
To answer the last bit: on page 24 it describes the connections to the CDL module one of which is;
Terminal: G
Wire colour: Yellow/Pink
Function: Actuator motor -- ground to unlock, 12 volt supply to lock

I agree with Saska...these are the pages you need.
I would add that on the same page, 24...
terninal B, yellow/black, 12 volt supply to unlock, ground to lock. so this complements the circuit with terminal G
Let us know how it goes, I for one, would be very interested.

A little late with the post but somebody stole July on me as the last time i turned around it was June !. The install went like clockwork and took less than 2 hours for the black widow1901with dual stage shock sensor, led (installed between the two screws that hold the top cover on the fascia) Its a simple system and the parking lights flash when armed/disarmed (not as on some i have seen where the headlights start to pop up!) There is actually an M100 Elan alarm file on Direct wire (
http://www.directechs.ca-attached)
Alarm install 2.pdf
as well as a wiring diagram for the single wire system whch is the same as used on some late model japanese imports (see attached)

Hi Didn't know keyless entry was an option! Would my '92 UK car have had it? and if so can it be resurrected?

I thought they all came with remote central locking.......

I used the factory alarm wires for much of the install of my alarm. You just need to hook up the other ends under the knee bolster. I even hooked up a trunk release though this was alittle extra work as I also have a trunk release switch that only works when the key is in the ignition.
I'm doing the same install for Ekapol on his green car. Siren is well hidden in the engine compartment. Even can hook up the car's horn on an intermittent pulse. Alarm is an inteliguard with remotely adjustable proximity sensor for when the tops down.

Your car is over halfway there with the key opening both doors from the drivers side. Its a simple matter of installing an alarm and/or a keyless enty system across the door lock solenoids as shown in the earlier diagram.

Can you tell me where to get the 'bits' -bleeper (or whatever is the name for the remote sender)
I have only two conventional keys. Sorry for sounding thick but after 7 years ownership have only just discovered this site and am impressed by the knowledge within.
Plus having retired I have only now had the chance ,and money , to give the car due respect. I'm searching for all ideas to improve the car which both myself and my wife love and enjoy.

Radovljica, Slovenia. Just over Austrian border. In the alps, at the very north of what was Yugoslavia.
(We have family and contacts in UK if that would help) Thanks.

Regardless of wheather or not you have central locking, the big question is " do you have the alarm brain already in the car?" Remotes are useless if they don't correspond to an alarm brain in the car. This should be your first order of buisness.

"Alarm brain" what's it like and where would it lurk? When I bought it the car had sticker saying alarm was by BMW.
Never bothered to much about security when living in the wilds of Lincolnshire, and accepted that car probably predated remote locking.
Happy to try ebay links for kit but now you have worried me that I may be "brainless" !!!!!!

I am not 100% sure that you need an alarm 'brain'

These kits are designed for cars with central locking (mine did not have a brain for an alarm, i had one added because i wanted the alarm function) You were asking about remote entry and the kits are designed only for this, also if you look at the instructions that were uploaded there are no connections required to any alarm for keyless entry, only the door lock solenoids. Perhaps Marie is thinking you want the Alarm function activated as well as having keyless entry?? Also i thought all UK spec cars had this option?
