Registration is required. It is one of the few set in stone LOG rules.

Saturday will be a very full day of activities.

Once again I will try to organize an informal M100 breakfast gathering. We have had these in the past. It is a good start to Saturday as everyone gets to meet and great each other before the day gets too hectic.

The schedule has not been finalized at this time. Some folks will be preparing their cars for the car show. A few folks will take an early morning drive of their own or take one following a preplanned tour route. I expect that there will be some technical sessions during the morning. The car show and concour site is just across the street from the hotel so I don't think there will be parade to the site. For those who haven’t been to a LOG it is worth mentioning that some very special cars are usually at the car show. In the past few LOGs Lotus Cars, Classic Team Lotus and the Barber Motorsports museum have provided some new and historic cars. Looking at the cars and lunch will consume several hours. Then its time to wash up and rest (I nap if I can) before getting dressed up in preparation for cocktail hour. The banquet follows immediately after drinks and usually runs until 11:00 or 12:00. The hard core folks usually adjourn to the bar and ply the special guests (Lotus employees and the speaker(s)) with drinks in an attempt to get information or stories out of them.

If the club's general membership meeting and arts & crafts gallery exhibit is on Saturday I will be incredibly busy. I have to attend the first and my wife and I are coordinating the other.

At LOG I usually wake up at 5:00 AM on Saturday and except for an hour of rest keep going to about 1:00 AM Sunday.

The banquet seems a bit pricy but is actually quite reasonable for a hotel provided event meal. The banquet speakers are quite good. If you were at the Colorado LOG you know that Emerson Fittipaldi and company were excellent. It is one of the few dress up events my wife and I attend each year.

If I had limited time for LOG I think I would visit the Hershey show on Friday then zip down to Gettysburg and attend the Friday reception. Saturday would be totally LOG focused. Sunday I would take a guided tour of the battlefield, the self directed tour via CD is also good.

This year I think that my wife will take one of the horseback tours on Sunday while I am at the auto-X.

There is so much going on in the world of Lotus (Evoras being delivered, Lotus sponsoring an Indy car, Lotus Racing F1…) LOG should be very special.

I wish I could say more but I am sworn to secrecy.

May 30, 2010 - 60 hotel rooms have been reserved
June 6, 2010 - I now know of 4 M100s have committed to LOG
June 19, 2010 - 90 hotel rooms have been reserved

A great deal progress is being made on the planning and preparation. Contracts with the guest speakers are being signed. Signs purchased. Trophies ordered. Technical session arscheduled. The drivers education event at Summit Point is set. I haven't heard much about the autocross however I have driven on the site with my wife's Honda Fit (gently as she was watching). I very good layout is possible although the traction won't be the best.

Sign up now and get the early bird registration price! http://www.lotuscarclub.org/log30forms.php

Yes there are several long distance awards. I am chairing this aspect of LOG. See http://www.lotuscarclub.org/log30events.php

Long Distance – Categories are:
· Furthest distance drive in a Lotus to LOG
· Longest distance tour in a Lotus on the way to LOG
· Furthest distance towing a Lotus to LOG
· Furthest distance traveled to LOG

There is a going to be a mileage adjustment based on the age of the car. It will be tough to win this year, as it is every year. I hear rumors of several epic rides:
· One guy and his dog claim they will be touring in an Elise from Main to Gettysburg via California.
· A Seven is being driven from Colorado
· An Elan (non-M100) is being driven from California

Now if you want to tour (that is take a roundabout route) from your home in Canada to Alaska then to Main followed by a quick to Mexico before heading to Gettysburg I think you could probably receive a standing ovation at the banquet and nice memento to hang on your "I love me wall". In 2004 we did an 8,000 mile tour from LOG in Birmingham to our home in Virginia. If we had done it the other way we would have won the longest drive award. We also drove from tidewater Virginia to the Denver LOG via Idaho. That crazy Maniac and his dog had driven further.

We, my wife & I, enjoy the cars, the people and their stories at LOG.

ps: Assuming that your screen name indicates that you will be driving an Esprit you may be interested. A magazine will have an editor in attendance who is looking to do a story on early Esprits among other things. They are especially interested in cars who have driven long distances.

Hmmmm, i do love a challenge :-D My long distance ride of choice will be my M100 if all the mods are done in time, the thought of that drive in the Esprit is a guaranteed year long membership to the chiropractor club  There are a few detours i had in mind, up over the rockies, head north through jasper, then back down to the trans Canada highway and across before taking a sharp right to the USA. Brings back memories of one of my earlier M100's which i picked up in Scottsdale and drove home (in a day and a half!@ an average close to 100) quite a trip and i did write a long trip story for the Esprit group which i should re-post here as i know a lot of owners will relate to some of the more colorful aspects  Are there any rules or prerequisites for the long distance award?

The rules are pretty simple. You give your driven mileage, the year and model of the car. If you drive a roughly direct route you enter into the driving category. If you drive a circuitous route then you enter the tour category. An adjustment factor is applied assuming that if you are driving a 1967 it is much tougher than driving a 2010. This should work out fair for a 1967 Elan vs. 2010 Evora, not so fair if it comes down to a 1991 Elan vs. 2009 211. A pannel of judges using a secret process break any "ties". If someone doesn't like the results the decisions of the judges is final, there is no recourse. They just have to lump it, or maybe the contest chair will buy them a drink.

The exact rules should be posted on the Lotus Ltd LOG 30 web site soon.

The 46th National Apple Harvest Festival is taking place the weekend of LOG http://www.appleharvest.com/ It is about 10 miles from Gettysburg. An antique car show is part of the festivities.

Yet another reason to include the spouse and children.

No excuses for not participating

Postby DeanG » Fri 30.07.2010, 00:18

There are no excuses. The trunk of a M100 can swallow an elephant. Please bring your Lotus related memorabilia, pictures, models, art, crafts, children's art to LOG 30.

Help me out. I lobbied hard for turning the arts & crafts competition from an adjunct to registration into a gallery event. There will be some interesting stuff (art work, factory drawings, models, photographs and more) for all to experience but we (the attendees of LOG) need your submissions to help make this an awesome, fantastic, spectacular event.

Act Now - LOG Hotel Filling Up Fast

Postby DeanG » Fri 06.08.2010, 00:08

A friend reports that Tuesday when he made his hotel reservation 160 rooms have been reserved at the LOG hotel. I quick count of rooms based on their floor plan shows about 260 rooms.

The up side is that there should be plenty of people and plenty of interesting cars.

Get your LOG Preregistration done and in the mail!

Postby DeanG » Tue 31.08.2010, 20:38

Get your LOG Preregistration done and in the mail!

Two reasons to do it now:

"Preregistration must be postmarked by September 1, 2010" Normal registration is an additional $25.

Apparel "Orders received after Sept. 1 will be mailed after LOG, subject to S&H of $8 for 1st item, $5 each add’l item" So it will cost you more and you won't have that snazzy shirt or fleece to wear at LOG.

200+

Postby DeanG » Wed 15.09.2010, 22:20

The latest counts for LOG30 have 200+ registrants for 360+ people in attendance. This matches nicely with the 200+ LOG related room reservations at the hotel.

LOG is a different experience. As you drive around you see other Lotus cars driving about and parked at the local restaurants and shops. Someone mentions that they heard about a good BBQ, ice cream, road, interesting auto shop and etc. suddenly a dozen Lotus leave in a group to check it out.

Instead of fielding familiar questions like Who makes Lotus? you get detailed technical questions concerning obscure modifications that your made.

You hear yourself and others saying "I never saw one of those before."

You tell someone you drove your M100 and they ask which one. You say red and they ask which one.

People you have read about stop buy and say hello to you.

Someone always has mechanical difficulties. Someone has the needed part, another the needed tool and someone else has made the same repair and can help you out with the job and help you avoid potential pitfalls.

There will be an argument about a historical point concerning Lotus or racing and (except for the question of the origin of the Lotus name) someone who was there, built the part or raced the race will chime in.

Total Lotus immersion, I love it.
