I have managed to find Spec 3+ clutch at reduced cost

Spec 3+ clutch at cheaper price

This is the clutch I installed on my Elan this last November. It is slightly more harsh than the stock one, but I hear it gets better the more it wears in. With the Quaiff differential, the car grabs for traction like a cheetah. I believe these are rated at somewhere around 400 HP. Actualy I just found the info. They are rated at 500+ foot/pounds.

Total cost is approx £565 + P&P from Ultra Rev.


If anyone else is interested let me know and will try to get reduced price.

You do realise that you will get stung for Duty and vat on that? There a bunk of money grabbing

How much is the flywheel coming in at?

Right I have finaly got some more information and a picture. They dont look the prittiest but have never let me down in any of the Lotus Elise's I have had them made for.

I am still working on the price but need to get my supplyer down a bit.

I would expect them to be about £200-£250 including the bearing! but cant be 100% sure yet.

Hi Anthony,

I've finally got some news for you!

I can confirm that the company willing to make these products will be Helix.

The kit will include clutch plate and cover. Its a paddle clutch plate made from a Cerimetalic composite. This is a stronger composite than what is used in Organic items. You would typically find this type of clutch plate in competition vehicles. They have also identified a problem with the original cover plate. Apparently, if they do a direct equivalent the cover will not be strong enough to cope with the torque (common problem on the Elan). The cover that they are willing to do for this application will be redesigned and reinforced to cope.

Prices:-

Clutch Plate Paddle #165+VAT (2-3weeks)
Clutch Cover #210+VAT (3-4weeks)
Light weight Flywheel #300+VAT (3-4 weeks)

If you require any of these components, Helix have advised a turn around time of approximately 3-4 weeks.

Just to let you know i`m still interested as i`ve just sold my spare clutch, i`m in no rush but when i come to fit the a larger turbo (which won`t be very a long time) i will require a uprated clutch to handle 300bhp. just keep us up todate

BTW, think i`d prefer the full face clutch if poss

I got stung for £18 VAT as parcel came with total of approx value £50

Right I have finally pulled my finger out and got round to getting these paddel clutch's sorted. They will be a four paddel clutch like in the photo and come complete with friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing.

The Retail price is £326.52+VAT

All Lotus Elan Central members will get a specail price of £261.22+VAT.

Not good timing for me as i`m Broke and would of prefered the full face type clutch as the 4 puck is a little to on and off for normal driving

Dico has the 6 puck clutch fitted and i drove his downs south last week to Simons factory and you soon get use to the clutch.

After driving the Blue Beast recently:

Dico: "You didn't have any problems with the clutch then."
Me: "Why, should I? Knowing you, it's probably an uprated one. Didn't feel particularly stiff to me."

Any updates on this thread? It's time to start lookng around for something to hold around 300 hp, I was thinking a
sprung 6 puck with a stock pressure pressure plate. I was able to get ahold of a nice aluminum flywheel for it..

It would depend on what the stock pressure plate is capable of handling as it is all to do with clamp load and torque not horse power but if you up the horse power you will up the torque as the two are related.
I doubt the stock pressure plate is capable of handling the extra torque so an uprated cover will be needed.

Do not forget friction does not rely on area but load.

Well, the Elise ones I have had made have gone really well as they are designed to be like a fast road use clutch so not to heavy but can take alot more hoursepower than a standard one.

I am going to speak to my guy tomorrow morning to talk about specs and also costs.

I should know everything by lunchtime so I can post it up here.

I decided to go with a local company, $135 for a sprung 6 disc plate, I supply the pressure plate.
I'm pretty sure this was the clutch I used when the Isuzu was running low 11's and 375 hp..
