Happened last weekend - went on Sunday expecting to see a few Lotus's - good selection of everything else but only one lonely Europa !!!!. Just goes to show we're too classy !

All to do with the bit of water, the Solent, if the car is not Island based you have the ferry cost to add in plus the fuel, it would have cost me £100.00 + just to get over there and back, at least the free board as the wifes parents still live there.
Any pics might know some of the people/cars being from East Cowes and SWMBO from Niton.

I know what you mean about ferry costs - there were quite a number of cars from across the water but I think Wightlink were giving a concession as , I believe ,they sponsor the show - even though it is still the most expensive ferry trip ( mile for mile ) in the world!

Unfortunately I didn't take any photos ( would have done had there been any Elans )

I thought I had the only Elan on the Island but one other has been spotted ( albeit only heresay )

I thought the most expensive ferry for cars was the chain ferry in Cowes, mile for mile or yards in this case more so at low spring tide!

If anyone ever needs ferry tickets just let me know. I can do period or day return for a car/van at £30 and for a car and trailer at £40

Could be me - mine's red - REG PLATE : BFG ( very appropriate as I'm 6'7" ) - I've only ever seen one other Elan ( another red one ) some time ago but presumed it was a tourist ! Good to know there is another one over here - what part of the Island do you hail from?

I no longer have mine, I have a VX220 and a S1 Elise now.

I did have a Medina Green S2 for a short while, is yours the Elan that is looked after by Barry Snow? if not then there is definitely another Red Turbo around.

Yes Barry does look after mine - he was recommended to me last year when I was trying to find someone on the Island who knew about Elans. He's a really nice bloke who knows all about these cars and treats all his customer's cars as if they're his own. I do recall now when I first went to him he said he also looked after another one for a local lady so there must be at least one more around.

I'm ashamed to say mine spends most of its time under a cover in the garage ( in Porchfield ) except for sunny summer days !


Always been impressed with the VX220 but I doubt whether my frame could get in it let alone drve it. With the Elan though I even have headroom with the hood up and it's very wide - suits me sir!!!!

If so www.iowcc.co.uk may be of interest to you. Even if you are not really into doing it yourself you should pop along to the Healey weekend in November, its an awesome spectacle.

Saturday is at BAE and Sunday at the College.

Not really into using my car for track days ( might get it dirty!!!! ) but Healey weekend looks good - do you just turn up to spectate?

Isle of Wight car club that brings back some memorys of sprints up the hill from the esplanade in the good old day when you could get the road closed and sprints with the Healey mob at Bembridge air field, not for geting the Island stages.

Name does not ring any bells but memory cell may be on strike.
A few names I do remember were Mark Rhodes now part of Hose Rhodes Dickson, the Turpin brothers, Ian Ridges who was in Chale Green post office till 2005 I think and a Flux, Morris I think who used to own a farm at Godshill.

A friend of mine invited me to a "track event" at the old Whitecroft site a few years ago - he had a yellow escort ( Mexico - I think - rebuilt with a massive engine ! ) Thre were quite a few cars there tearing around an uphill track - great fun. Could that have been organised by IOWCC ?

Are you referring to Ventnor ? As a child I remember going off to Ventnor with my uncle in a Riley 1.5 where they had closed off the zig zag road by the Winter Gardens and used it for uphill trials - I remember a variety of cars the fastest being a Healey Sprite - others including great lumbering Lagondas and my uncle's old Riley having a go - halcyon days !!

That's the place, was only very short but still good fun. Shame they did not do it the other end of the sea front as that is steeper with some tricky corners.
