The company that pressed out my jackshaft bearing are an agent for Hardy Spicer and he thinks he can refurbish the drive sharfts, Both the new shafts from Lotus came in Hardy Spicer boxes.

When I am up and about I will take him an old shaft to look at

My understanding is you can order the seals just from the 3 numbers

Has anyone got an idiot guide on how to undertake this little task please. :poke:

I'm gonna do mine, but I don't want to damage it... :(

No one on the thread seems to have actually done it,

So I've taken some "man the fcuk up" pills....I have the shaft out and in my hands...I'm ready to start...

Hoping some one out there can help.

I've still not plucked up the courage to do mine! - it's either that or the leaking petrol tank next...

Just bought this to confirm the dimensions for your Wiki thread.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 3D1&_rdc=1

But when it comes to getting a bearing for fittment, I don't know which one to get :?

Normal, rubber sealed, stainless steel sealed, One with a bearing which has larger internal radial clearances for high temperatures

May be the old bearing will have some secrets

Cheers Geoffers, I'm just going out to the work shop now to have a go a stage one...

Here's what I've done so far...

i) Remove jack shaft and R/H drive shaft from the car as an assembly
ii) Split them
iii) Removed the circlip from the end of the drive shaft (just for clearance)
iv) Used a three legged hub puller, making sure it won't catch the metal dust guard when the shaft is pressed out, I used a bench vice on the mating face of the bearing housing, not as shown in the picture. I was just setting the puller up when I took the picture).
v) and it comes out

I'll complete stage 2 later

and stage three when I have a bearing

Would not be worth fitting a cheap bearing as these bearings in a good make are not expensive so I would go for a SKF bearing, probably SKF 62062RS1C3 as I doubt it is anything that special.
Is there any markings/numbers on the seals?

viii) Press out the bearing
ix) Refitting a new bearing is simply the reverse

Just thought Bob... Why did you go for the C3 and not the standard...

I nearly bought that exact one, then bottled it. I thought I'd get a cheapy and check dimensions etc first.

Should have said SKF 62062RS1 as they do not need to be C3 as they are for hot and high speed environments.
Cheapy! no need as it would be a waste of money and a SKF 62062RS1 is only £10.38 inc VAT and delivery.

So no numbers on the seals?
dimensions?

Well done that man ;)

How much interference/pressure is needed to put the jackshaft back into the new centre race?

Obviously, having gone this far, the last thing you want to do is damage the new bearing...
