2010 NEC Classic Car Show

Postby Silverghost » Tue 02.11.2010, 18:38

The annual pilgrimage is next week...

...but how well is the marque to be represented? And will there be any M100s? Are any forumists showing their cars?

Not aware of this show... Sounds intesting though. I'm going to the MPH / topgear show up there Sunday.

My Esprit (Turbo G-car) will be on TheLotusForums stand with Ken's S1, Cliff's S4s, and Dany Bahar's V8. They're all white cars. Should be a good display .... tho mine isn't up to the standards of the other three so some mild embarassment for me!

Best way to get M100s on show would be for LEC to run a stand. But while the promotion aspect would be good for LEC and the car, its a bit of a PITA for those running the stand. Set up is Thurs PM, three full days of show and then take down on Sun evening so late home. Tiring and expensive for those that do it - but can be fun too.

Well, there would need to be somewhere for them to go Gary and that means a big committment for someone.

LEC could apply for a stand and might get a 2-4 space allocation. But the show is always oversubscribed so not everyone gets in. S(unbeam)L(otus)OC was missing this year for the first time for many years cos there was a cockup with their application and there was no spare space to allocate when the fallout was eventually spotted.

Some of us LECers are members of other clubs as well. The most obvious contender might be Club Lotus - but for them the show is delegated to the Staffordshire branch to run, so only for those prepared to brave 4 days with Bob C. More realistically Lotus Drivers Club have shown M100s before - so we know Eddie and co would be up for including one if a suitable volunteer came forward. There's a few other regional (not marque specific) clubs who may accept an M100 entry although for some of these the car might not be seen as old enough yet to warrant classic status.

I guess there may be some potential in approaching Bibbo to see if LEC could share some TLF space. Costs are high - particularly if you want some electricity/carpet/etc. Sharing costs might be cool?

The main issue, as mentoned before, is the committment involved. Cars have to arrive on Thursday and stay there 'til Sunday night. So that's a couple of days off work and three nights in a hotel for most people. The show is open 9 - 7 so that's a long day on the stand. Having said all that, I really enjoyed it this year and was pleased to see Lionel on display

How about a LEC (short?) list? Who on here would be prepared to pledge their car and time next year??

yes I see your point. I think previously they've been on the LDC stand, but now Chris has sold his too

Yes I had my M100 on the LDC stand back in 2008, and will be having my orange Exige on it this year :-D
The M100 was defiantly a hit at the show so there's always a place for one!
