just beacuse they will be out getting rebuilt anyway.

Steve

i'll take my chances with my block and get the head resurfaced. it would take me a couple hours of wet sanding with 1500 grit to unevenly remove even 4 thousandths of cast iron ROFL

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT NEWS,
Head gaskets arrived to-day, they are genuine lotus parts A100E6104S country of origin Japan. Cost and this is for 2 gaskets and fair play to Sj sports cars for not trying to sell them at a premium, £74,80 including delivery, remember this is for 2 gaskets.

Xmas has come late this year.

Without slogging through 6 pages of posts, are these factory original turbo HGs or one of the various other ideas bandied about in the last year? Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Crambury.

Ade has GENUINE OEM fiber gaskets.

Thomas4Parts has MULTI-LAYERED STEEL (MLS) gaskets (isuzone did a group buy and T4P pressed an extra 5).

so looks like members have TWO options now. the MLS is around 250 USD though

bobbrown wrote:If my calculations are correct the NA has a combustion chamber volume including the gasket of 45cc and the turbo 53cc, a change in gasket thickness changes this by about 0.5cc per 0.1mm of gasket thickness.

FWIW I measured three of four combustion chambers on my Impulse RS cylinder head. Each one measured 40cc. I don't have a compressed gasket thickness number for the MLS so I'm using .060" as a generic starting point. .060" on our bores = 7.664cc. That gives the turbo 1.6 a combustion chamber volume of ~48cc assuming you are running at zero deck and no dish/dome on your pistons. The cylinder head HAD been surfaced in the past but it would have required a pass of roughly .040" to equal a 5cc drop in chamber volume & I simply cannot see any machinist who has been in business any decent length of time removing .040" to true up a deck.

Oh yeah sorry for the numbers in inches but American machinists mostly operate in SAE because it is too much work to be converting back and forth from in to mm. The conversion is easily available online if you need it.
I just want to be successful.
