Yes, you're right a5gcd --geoff and bob have lost the thread and are trying to hang on by a whisker. The're listening to or looking into their crystal 'set' balls and talking bo***cks !

Can you email the data or is it too much for an email to handle? I'm in Korea and want to see how viable it is. Cheers

Hi, Atomicdeathmonkey. Negotiate with Readit to send you the bits to do with the hardtop or send you a disc. ( Apart from showing how a MGF hardtop can be converted the disc also includes : service manual, electrical manual , engine management manual , parts list, top gear 1990- lotus elan, elanscan.log.) you can download most of this yourself and put it on a disc with presentation envelope but at £10 surely he not robbing anyone !
click on his name and send private message ( posting this in case anyone else wants the info. )

cheers Terry, I'm still looking for a decent elan out here - most are pretty badly modified or falling asunder so I only want to see the hardtop bit at this stage and see if it's worth my while. I'm pretty sure i'll need a hardtop - car will be parked on street potentially so more safety than anything else.

I sent a message to Readit a couple of weeks ago enquiring about his hardtop, but received no reply. I have now seen his instructions on modifying an MGF hardtop, and it is pretty involved. While I prefer the shape of the modified MGF hardtop to the one designed by Simon Carrier, the fit and finish of Simon's hardtop will be much better, I think.

Having failed to win the hardtop recently on Ebay, I would like to attempt to adapt the MGF hardtop to fit but have had no reply from Readit enquiring as to whether his CD on the subject is still available. So I am wondering if anyone can help, I would be quite willing to pay, make a donation to charity or whatever for this information as it seems a pity to try and reinvent the wheel so to speak when details of this might be known.

I have a copy of the instructions but basically its a case of lots of fibreglass to infill the gaps that the MGF top doesn't cover. Clearly the header rail is the main area and the second area to infill is around the windows.

The hardtop sits very close to the bootlid so it appears that there will be more room in the cabin than the Kuching top.

There is quite a lot of work involved but its the infill on the header rail. I propose inthis thread to use an old header rail section from an old soft top I have kept. In addition the headlining would be a reworked MGF lining with an old Elan grab handle.

Two designs, one with a rear deck aka Kuching and one without. I have two MGF hardtops ready to go. BTW dont buy an MGF top without a rear glass as the glass itself is circa £250.00 alone!

Any other ideas would be welcome.

Regards

John

MGF Hardtop

Postby fillpoke » Mon 16.03.2015, 22:40

Does anyone know if the CD containing instructions for modifying an MGF hardtop to fit our cars is still available? Also is there any other info out there anywhere? Thanks, Dave
