Sure he would.
The common opinion is that there seem to be 2 types of Elise driver/owner: 1 who likes the car just for being a fantastic handling sports (who don't usually wave back) & another who also likes Lotus for its community (who will wave back).
The fact that you've posted here proves you're the 2nd type.

Spotted a red Elan today near Tower Bridge in London.
The car had one rear light off a renault GTA (the groves style) the other was normal.
The car then appeared behind me 5-10 minutes later in St Katherines dock.
K1 E**, I'd say it was an N/A, the car was driven by a White haired Gent

Some are just coming out of hibernation and making the most of the spring sunshine. Several spotted round here over the last week too.

Clean shiny Calypso on a J plate (with the roof UP ffs!) in Broxbourne, Herts lunchtime today, passed my mum's house while my Collapso on an H was topdown on her drive and covered in weeks of grimy winter driving dirt.
Oh yes Smithy!

My blue brother out on track at the Combe action day again. Didn't see your car parked up or anything, only on track. Would be good to meet an greet at some point.
Only pic I found...
