Stainless steel gear shift cables

I got my car back this morning and from the first movement i could feel a massive improvement.

The gear change has a solid accurate feel that really installs confidence, you can actually feel that a gear has been selected and the feel is more slick than the standard set up.
My old cables always felt like they would break and eventually they did, when you see the old cables it is not hard to see why they do..Garbage springs to mind.

My car now has a modern feel and it is actually more fun to drive, the gear changes just happen and you have more time to concentrate on steering and driving as opposed to thinking is it in yet (ohh Mrs)

No draw backs from this end it centres fine no stiffness and slick movement, The cost could be an issue for some but i look at it this way you will buy these "once" so if you are keeping your car it is a worthwhile investment..

If you are fitting these yourself then read the Wiki and save yourself a couple of days labour, my garage didn't listen and in turn buggered about for 2 days trying to set them up, if you ever had a problem then Bob is on hand and pointed my garage towards the problem which then was resolved (top bloke)

Not so sure cost is an issue as the standard SE cables come in at £268.10 a pair + delivery and the S2 even more, AB cables I believe are around the £250.00 mark so these are actually cheaper than any of the other options out their.

That said it is nice to see you are happy with the results although it took longer than it should have done.

I will be placing the order for the cables tomorrow and will have the rest of my parts done by Monday, rod ends are here, waiting on brackets for the gearbox "ordered" and some hardware also ordered.

There will be other runs but to meet the discount level on the cables will need a minimum of 5 sets that said I can still do 1 off's but the price goes up by £30.00 as it is not only the discount but the individual instead of shared carriage cost form the cable supplier.

- Does that mean you have Dave's Short Shift Kit fitted? I have the kit as well but not yet fitted, so am thinking about ordering these cables and having both done at once.

Does that mean you have Dave's Short Shift Kit fitted?

Yes I already had the short shift fitted and I was a bit concerned rightly or wrongly that it might put more pressure on the standard cables,
but as I said it had been running with the standard cables and s/shift for over a year, and the cables that came off looked ok so my concern
could have been unfounded regarding the pairing with the short shift kit.
However it is well documented that the early cables can let you down and I was looking for a suitable upgrade, Bob came up with these super shift cables
just at the right time, along with the short shift kit it just dosn't get any better than that

Any of the short shift options will increase the load on the cables it has to by the very nature of what you are trying to achieve e.g. short levers mean less travel more effort to move the same load. If the original SE cables are not in good condition then the chances are they will fail at some point, a lot of it is down to how you shift gears. If you are just shifting up in a leisurely way as you would when cruising about then they will probably survive for years if on the other hand you are trying to shift gears fast then the chances are you are going to put a lot more stress on them and ping they break. I know it has happened to me on a standard shift and standard plastic ended cables, now where was that Elise I had just over taken, oh he's back in front while stop to see what has happened .

Personally Steve I didn't think your cables were that good and the chances are they would have failed and I think someone had be at them before us from the state of the bush on main selector.

With any cable they will break at the weakest point and the weak point on the SE cables is the plastic ends, in the case of the cables I have made up the weakest point is the cables them selves but they are designed to run with a working loads in excess of 70kg push and 100kg pull that’s working loads not breaking points as that is going to be much more than that probably in excess of 250kg.

Just waiting on the cables to turn up which may be today failing that tomorrow.
They have made up 8 sets and I know there is more than that on the list so I'm going to be 2 short while the supplier gets some more parts in from the USA as the fist lot came from their European division which is now out of stock. It's not a problem to get the parts it just means we suffer the delay while they are shipped from the USA. No doubt they will ship more than we need and the cable supplier is going to hold some stock so this should not be a problem in the future.

One person I know is in no rush (cliff) just need another to step up else I will be forced to make the decision my self on who the other one is but the delay is only a couple of weeks at the most.

As a side note I have asked that they let me know when the parts arrive as I can add to this order up to that point and still maintain the discount level after that it will be 5 sets at a time.
