Transport to/from the gupta on 12th August

Postby dapinky » Sat 04.06.2011, 11:16

As things seem to be getting closer, it is now time to consider the important things in life, like 'how am i going to get home from the curryhouse when i've had a couple of pints?'

The restaurant details can be found at www.melbournearms.com/ if you wish to sort your own taxi/driving out.

To that end, I can't help you much - however, for those who are staying in the area, there are a number of tried/tested/trusted options, and I'll do my bit to sort something out.

The restaurant own a minibus which they will send out to collect customers, and will drop them back at the end of the evening, so to sort out times/routing/demand we need (another) list......

Collect return at Travelodge (ideal for those staying at Travelodge, and just a short walk for anyone staying a short walk away :D )

Times to be confirmed neerer the event, and there may be a couple of runs....

I would imagine that the pick-up from the showground will be included in a run from the Travelodge, so if anyone requires a seat on the bus, please put your name down on an appropriate list, I can't really see 3 runs being workable, but if there is demand, i can only ask.....

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Okay, I've just got off the phone to the restaurant to sort the transport - theres good news and not-so-good news (but nothing major, or even unreasonable in the current financial climate......)

Basically, they are happy to do 2 runs each way to get us to and from the meal, but it is no longer a complimentary service.

I don't feel that the £15 each way run is excessive (given the time it takes, and the cost if you were to seperately book a taxi) so have agreed to it without hesitation (anyway, It's Neils Credit Card details he has on file, not mine  ).

As such, they will collect from the Travelodge at 1900 hours for the first run, and then come and collect from the camp site for the second run - time to be anounced on the night, as he'll phone me when the first lot are dropped at the restaurant.

Therefore, those on the list at Travelodge need to be waiting outside the main entrance in good time for the 7:00pm pick up - I won't be there, so perhaps someone will leap up to corrall the hoards onto the bus (Specky, Gareth, Spud anyone else????).

For those at the campsite, I'm fairly sure we'll all be around the same bit at the right time, ready to rush down to the main road for collection at about 1930 (I suppose it makes sence to get them to collect us at the roadside???).

I can confirm that there are 15 spaces on the bus for each trip, so it isn't too late to get your name on a list if you want to.

It works out at a quid each way (plus a few coppers) - I'll sort it out with the man on the night, so feel free to throw a couple of pound in my direction during the evening - if you don't wish to pay for the service, I won't be chasing you - I'll simply make up the shortfall myself - life's too short to get upset over a couple of quid, and as it was originally offered as a complimentary service I won't bear any malice against you.

Dave - thanks for your work on this - I'll organise at the Travel Lodge if you like!

TLF contingent are generally at The Thistle - do they need to sort out their own or can we (you?) do it?
