window drop

I know its been talked about before but there are a number of problems and I just wanted to make sure i get the best diagnosis and find out what the fix is.

passenger window has been a bit jerky since I got the car. a couple of days ago when lowering it tot he bottem I noticed the motor wouldnt stop operating until I let go of the switch. I expected it to turn itself offwhen it went down but it did the noise thing over and over. the next day the window didnt want to go up so I helped it. then it went down and never came back up. i tried the switch but the motor didnt even turn over from what I recelect (this was this morning and its late...damn sheep keep calling me to bed)

so is this the usual slider, block, clip combo that I get from dave bean and all is done or does it sound like something else? id like to find out asap so I can order first thing and do the repair. thanks.

It sounds like the typical window problem to me. If you can have the window down for a few days take the door pannel off and take a look around to see what you need to make the fix.

There's a couple of easy tricks...

On the side that's working transpose the relays over, if necessary transpose switches.

There's really only one thing that cuts the supply to a windscreen motor... You

Even if the window is at it's fullest extent, it's still trying to be powered.

A juddery mechanism is normally a corner missing off the slider, eventually it will cant so far over and jam, which replicates hitting the end stop.

So whilst the motor doesn't appear to work, it's working just fine, it just can't move.

You say that you had a continous motor noise, this can be only be a few things:-

Snapped cable
Slider has broken and detached from the rail, the pulley wires would be a mess on the drum
The drive wheel and or motor teeth have stripped. Not likely on this car.

If the window works well in one direction and hardly in the other, suspect the slider.

If the window works well in one direction and not at all in the other, it could be a snapped cable. ( providing you're not on an end stop)

Oi vey. Okay it's been a bit due to work but I took the interior off the door. I will recap.

Before it totally stopped working properly, the window would go down but needed help going up. It was juddery. Then one day it went down without going back up.

The motor will work in both directions without stopping in either. I now have to pull the window up and down and it catches and helps every once in awhile but the glass needs to really be pulled or pushed.

Without yet taking the motor/regulator out I will say the butterfly clip looks fine and I see no damage to what I can see of the slider. I really want to make this repair as easily as possible ofcourse or at least the least troublesome even if it takes longer hence why I'm asking a lot of questions and hoping to get as much info as I can before tearing things apart further.

I just sooo don't want to eff it up. Does it sound like the slider or worse?

I did have a wierd window problem due to a bad connector. It passed voltage with just little bit bigger drop one way than the other but it wouldn't pass the necessary current in both directions. I found it by working back from the motor. First directly putting power into the motor, then backing up the harness. It took me several days of working with it to figure it out.
